Chapter 1 - The Humiliation in the Marble Lobby
The lobby of the Solmere Hotel was designed to impress. Polished marble floors imported straight from Italy. Towering white orchids blooming in solid gold vases. Crystal chandeliers reflecting light over the most powerful and wealthy people in the city. Everyone inside looked completely untouchable. Until the entire room suddenly went dead silent.
A young woman wearing a simple, faded tank top and jeans was being forcefully dragged across the shining floor. The woman dragging her was Victoria Sterling. Victoria was a glamorous, arrogant socialite dressed in an obscenely expensive white silk gown, her diamonds glittering under the lights. Charlotte Vale’s hands were badly scraped from the cold, hard marble. A dark, ugly bruise covered the left side of her face. A thin line of crimson blood stained the corner of her trembling lips.
“Get out of here!” Victoria shouted, her voice echoing off the high ceilings, making sure every single billionaire and celebrity in the lobby could hear her. “People like you are disgusting! You don’t belong in places like this!” The wealthy guests simply stopped and watched. They sipped their champagne. They whispered behind their hands. But not a single person stepped forward to help. No one asked what really happened. No one cared to know the truth.
They thought Charlotte was just a crazy beggar, or a thief trying to steal a glimpse of the high life. But the woman being humiliated on the floor was Charlotte Vale. She was the sole rightful heir to the entire Solmere Empire. She was the woman who legally owned every single brick of the billion-dollar hotel they were standing in.
Charlotte had entered her own building disguised as an ordinary housekeeper. She had done this after uncovering something far more dangerous than a simple corporate accident.
