Chapter 7 - The Empire Reclaimed

The lead FBI agent walked straight up to the stage, completely ignoring the chaotic crowd. “Arthur Sterling,” the agent said loudly. “You are under arrest for corporate fraud, grand embezzlement, and conspiracy to commit murder.” The entire ballroom gasped in collective horror. Murder?
Arthur fell to his knees, completely shattered. “No! It’s a setup! She’s lying!” he screamed, pointing a shaky finger at Charlotte. Charlotte stared down at the man who had betrayed her family. “The USB drive in your private safe had every single transaction, Arthur. Including the wire transfer to the man who cut my mother’s brakes.” She stepped closer to him, her eyes burning with unshed tears and absolute triumph. “You thought I was weak. You thought I was just a naive little girl you could erase. You were wrong.”
The agents hauled Arthur to his feet, slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists. The click of the metal echoed perfectly in the silent room. Victoria began to sob hysterically, grabbing the agent’s arm. “You can’t do this! Do you know who we are? We’re the Sterlings!” The agent simply pushed her away. “Not anymore, ma’am.”
As Arthur was dragged away in absolute disgrace, Victoria fell to the floor, exactly where Charlotte had been just a day before. Her expensive dress was ruined. Her reputation was destroyed. She looked up at Charlotte, crying pathetic, desperate tears. “Charlotte… please. We’re practically family. Don’t do this.” Charlotte looked down at her with absolutely zero pity. “Get out,” Charlotte said, echoing the exact same words Victoria had used on her. “People like you don’t belong in places like this.”

The hotel security guards—now taking orders strictly from their true boss—stepped forward and grabbed Victoria by the arms. They dragged the screaming, thrashing socialite out of the ballroom, right past the flashing cameras of the paparazzi. Justice was swift, public, and absolutely devastating.
Charlotte stood alone on the center of the stage. The villains had been vanquished. The poison had been removed from her empire. She looked out at the crowd of powerful people who were now staring at her with newfound respect, fear, and awe. “The Solmere Hotel is under new management,” Charlotte announced to the quiet room. “Thank you all for coming. The party is officially over.”
