Chapter 11 - THE UNMASKING IN COURT

Three months later, the preliminary hearings for The United States v. Julian Foster began in the federal district courthouse downtown. The courtroom was packed to capacity, filled with journalists, financial analysts, and former business associates eager to watch the once-untouchable construction magnate face the music.
Julian sat at the defense table wearing a standard orange jumpsuit, his hair unwashed, his face pale and gaunt. His expensive defense attorneys whispered frantically in his ear, but Julian kept staring fixedly across the aisle at the prosecution’s witness stand.
At that moment, I walked into the courtroom, leaning slightly on Arthur’s arm as I entered my sixth month of pregnancy. My emerald-green maternity dress hugged my distinctly rounded belly, a living, breathing testament to the truth that Julian’s lies could not suppress.
A collective gasp rippled through the gallery. Several reporters frantically whispered among themselves, taking notes and snapping photos as I took my seat in the front row of the gallery. Julian’s eyes locked onto my stomach, and I watched the last remaining color drain completely from his face. He finally understood the full, devastating irony of his actions: while he was sitting in a federal holding cell, the wife he threw out as 'barren' was carrying healthy twins.
“Call the primary prosecution witness, Sloan Foster,” the federal prosecutor announced clearly.
I stood up, walked steadily to the witness stand, and placed my hand upon the Bible. When the clerk asked me to state my name for the record, my voice rang out strong, clear, and unwavering through the crowded courtroom.
“Sloan Foster.”
For the next four hours, I systematically dismantled Julian’s entire corporate defense. With calm precision, I walked the court through six years of ledgers, offshore shell companies, forged safety certificates for the municipal waterfront project, and Dr. Vance’s medical tampering records. I didn't yell, I didn't dramatize, and I didn't need to. The raw, documented evidence spoke for itself.
When Julian’s defense attorney tried to object, claiming my testimony was biased due to our recent divorce, the federal judge simply overruled him, pointing out that my name was legally attached to every single financial transaction as the firm’s former chief bookkeeper.
“Mrs. Foster,” the prosecutor concluded, handing me a thick manila folder containing Dr. Vance’s signed confession. “Is this your signature on the corporate audit logs?”
May you like
“Yes, it is,” I answered. “And every signature beside mine was forged by Julian Foster in an attempt to hide the embezzlement of municipal funds.”
Across the aisle, Julian buried his face in his shackled hands, finally defeated by the very paperwork he had always believed was beneath him.
