Chapter 1 - The Billionaire's Fog

Arthur Sterling was a man who had built an empire from nothing.

His telecommunications company was worth billions.

He commanded boardrooms with a single glance.

He was brilliant, sharp, and unforgiving in business.

But lately, that brilliance was fading.

For the past six months, Arthur had been losing his mind.

Or so he thought.

It started with simple things.

Forgetting where he placed his favorite fountain pen.

Losing his train of thought during crucial stakeholder meetings.

Then, the physical symptoms began.

A trembling in his hands.

A heavy, suffocating exhaustion that no amount of sleep could cure.

His personal physician, Dr. Vance, called it early-onset dementia.

"Stress, Arthur," the doctor had said, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.

"Your brain is simply tired. You need to step back."

Evelyn, his beautiful and much younger fiancée, agreed entirely.

She was always there, hovering by his side.

Pouring his tea, arranging his pillows, managing his schedule.

To the outside world, she was an angel of mercy.

A devoted partner sacrificing her youth to care for a fading titan.

But to seven-year-old Lily, something was very wrong.

Lily was the daughter of Maria, Arthur’s loyal head maid.

Lily was born completely deaf.

Because she lived in a world of absolute silence, she saw things others missed.

She saw the way Evelyn’s eyes darted when Arthur signed his legal documents.

She saw the cold, hard sneer on Dr. Vance’s face when Arthur wasn't looking.

Lily couldn't hear their voices.

But she could see their shadows.

And she knew the shadows in this mansion were growing darker every single day.
