Chapter 10 - The Final Envelope

I walked slowly down the grand staircase, each step echoing in the cavernous silence of the foyer. The man who had abandoned me at the hospital just days ago—the man who had looked at me with such absolute disdain and told me to pack my bags—was now kneeling at my feet, sobbing like a broken child. I stopped two steps above him, looking down into his tear-streaked, terrified face. “What envelope, Julian?” I asked, my voice completely steady, devoid of the trembling weakness he was so used to exploiting. Julian swallowed hard, his eyes darting nervously toward Luka before looking back up at me with absolute dread. “The... the sealed envelope from your father’s estate archive,” Julian whispered, his voice barely audible over the sound of the ocean waves crashing against the cliffs below. “Arthur... Arthur and I found it the night your father died. We locked it away in the corporate vault because... because it contained the truth about who really owned the shipping empire before your father was pushed out.” A heavy silence settled over the foyer. Luka reached into his inner pocket and pulled out a thick, yellowed envelope sealed with red wax—the final piece of the puzzle, marked with my father’s personal family crest. “You thought you married Clara because she was an orphan with no one to protect her,” Luka said, his voice cold and unforgiving as he tossed the heavy envelope onto the marble floor right in front of Julian’s knees. “You thought you could steal her father’s legacy, ruin his company, and throw her out whenever your mistress got bored. But you didn’t realize that David Evans left everything—not to the corporate board, not to Arthur Vance, and certainly not to a parasite like you—but to his daughter, held in trust under my absolute protection.” Julian stared at the envelope as if it were a venomous snake ready to strike. He didn’t dare reach out to touch it. He knew that the moment that envelope was opened in front of the federal investigators waiting outside the gates, his entire life, his career, and his freedom would vanish forever.
