Chapter 12 - The Terminal Breach: Downloading The Truth

Upstairs on the eighty-second floor, inside Arthur Sterling’s private, hyper-secure executive office, the digital war for corporate survival was reaching its climax.

Elena sat before the massive dual-monitor mahogany desk, her fingers flying across the custom mechanical keyboard with blinding, erratic speed.

Lines of encrypted green code cascaded down the dark screens as her custom decryption bypass script fought against Sterling Capital’s military-grade mainframe firewall.

“Warning: Unauthorized access detected. Locking system down in 60 seconds,” a harsh, robotic female voice echoed from the computer’s internal speakers.

“Not today, you bitch,” Elena muttered fiercely under her breath, jamming the titanium flash drive deeper into the high-speed USB port.

Down in the ballroom below, Julian stood face-to-face with Arthur Sterling, holding the entire room spellbound with the sheer force of his presence and accusations.

“You embezzled twenty million dollars in syndicate funds, Arthur, and tried to murder your own CEO to cover your tracks!” Julian’s voice echoed off the crystal chandeliers.

“Security! Throw this raving madman out of my building immediately!” Arthur screamed, his polished composure completely shattering as panic leaked into his tone.

Four heavy-duty corporate security guards rushed forward from the wings of the ballroom, converging on Julian with their hands raised to tackle him to the floor.

Julian didn't flinch; he sidestepped the first guard’s clumsy grab, delivered a devastating elbow strike to his jaw, and used the man’s momentum to send him crashing into the buffet table.

“You’re out of time, Arthur!” Julian shouted, dodging a second guard as the ballroom erupted into absolute, unadulterated chaos among the terrified socialites.

Upstairs, the computer monitor flashed a brilliant, triumphant green.

“Download complete. All files successfully transferred,” the robotic voice announced pleasantly.

Elena ripped the titanium flash drive from the terminal port, slipped it securely into her pocket, and drew her sidearm as the heavy oak door of the executive office began to rattle.

Someone had overridden the digital locks from the security control room.

She didn't hesitate; she sprinted toward the private balcony overlooking the glittering Manhattan skyline, ready to make a high-stakes exit into the night air.
