Chapter 3 - The Ghost In The System: Uncovering The Offshore Syndicate

The sleek black sedan vanished down the winding oak-lined driveway of the Bellandi estate, leaving behind a trail of blue exhaust and an atmosphere thick with impending doom.
Vincent didn’t waste a single second standing by the window; he spun around and marched back to the mahogany desk where the active burner phone still lay silent.
Damien was panting heavily, clutching his bleeding cheek where Serena had scratched him during their sudden, desperate outburst of mutual betrayal.
Serena stood rigidly against the bookshelf, her designer blouse torn at the shoulder, her eyes wide with the frantic realization that her carefully constructed life was over.
“Who was that man, Damien?” Vincent demanded, his voice slicing through the heavy air like a razor-sharp blade as he loomed over his cowering cousin.
“I swear on my life, Vincent, I don’t know his real name! He only went by the handler! He was the liaison between the board’s secret faction and us!” Damien sobbed, sinking weakly onto the edge of a leather armchair.
Vincent grabbed Damien by the lapels of his expensive Italian suit, lifting him halfway out of the chair with sheer, unadulterated fury radiating from his frame.
“You coordinated the murder of my wife with a faceless syndicate, and you expect me to believe you don’t even know who writes your checks?” Vincent snarled right into his face.
“It was for the expansion capital! Eleanor was going to block the Asia-Pacific merger because of compliance violations! She was going to ruin the entire family legacy!” Damien cried out, gasping for breath as Vincent’s grip tightened.
Vincent shoved Damien back down into the chair with enough force to send the furniture sliding backward across the Persian rug.
He turned his piercing gaze toward Serena, who shrank back against the towering bookshelves as if trying to melt into the woodwork to escape his wrath.
“And you, Serena? How much was my wife’s life worth to you? A percentage of the shipping dividends? A bigger allowance for your offshore accounts?” Vincent asked coldly.
Serena swallowed hard, trying desperately to regain some semblance of her usual aristocratic composure, though her voice shook violently.
“You don’t understand how the real world works, Vincent. Eleanor was naive. She thought ethics mattered more than survival in our social circle,” Serena whispered defensively.
“She had a moral compass, something this rotting family lost generations ago,” Vincent retorted, walking over to the computer terminal Eleanor had left behind.
He bypassed the standard login screen using his late wife’s master biometric override, which she had secretly linked to his own fingerprint years ago as a fail-safe.
The desktop flickered to life, revealing an encrypted database titled Project Leviathan hidden deep within the root directory of the local network.
Vincent double-clicked the icon, and a massive spreadsheet opened, displaying millions of dollars in embezzled Bellandi funds funneled into shell companies across the globe.
At the head of those shell companies was a parent corporation registered under a cryptic acronym: V.H. Holdings.
Vincent stared at the initials on the screen, his mind racing as he tried to connect the letters to anyone within their vast, interconnected circle of high-society associates.
“V.H… Victor Hamilton? No, he died five years ago,” Vincent muttered to himself, scrolling rapidly through the digital ledger of corporate corruption.
Suddenly, the burner phone on the desk lit up again, flashing a text message across its dark screen instead of initiating an audio call.
Vincent walked over slowly and picked up the device, his eyes scanning the single line of text displayed in bold digital font.
“Check the safe deposit box at Zurich Central. The real owner of V.H. Holdings is closer to home than you think.”
Vincent’s heart skipped a beat as he stared at the screen, realizing that the anonymous handler was playing a calculated game of cat and mouse with him.
“Who sent this?” Vincent demanded, turning to face Serena and Damien, though neither of them looked like they had any answers left to give.
“It’s a trap, Vincent! Can’t you see? They want you to leave the estate so they can finish what they started with Eleanor and Emma!” Serena warned, her voice rising hysterically.
“Everything you two have built on lies is going to burn to the ground,” Vincent said calmly, pulling his secure satellite phone from his jacket pocket.
He dialed a direct, encrypted number that connected straight to his head of private security and corporate intelligence operations, Commander Vance.
“Vance, I need a tactical team locked and loaded at the main gates within ten minutes. No local cops, no corporate board members, just our own trusted men,” Vincent ordered firmly.
“Understood, Mr. Bellandi. What’s the situation?” Vance’s gravelly voice replied instantly from the secure line.
“We have a security breach and active conspirators detained inside the estate library. Lock down all perimeter exits and impound every vehicle on the property,” Vincent commanded.
“Done. We’re rolling in five,” Vance confirmed before the line went dead with a crisp beep.
Vincent slipped the phone back into his pocket and turned to face his aunt and cousin, who looked utterly paralyzed by the speed of his counter-attack.
“You thought you won when my wife’s car went off that cliff,” Vincent said, walking toward the heavy mahogany doors to secure them from the inside.

“You didn’t realize that Eleanor was always three steps ahead of every single rat in this family,” Vincent added, locking the deadbolt with a resounding metallic click.
As the distant rumble of approaching tactical vehicles echoed from the front courtyard, Vincent prepared to dismantle the syndicate piece by piece, starting with the cowards locked inside the room with him.
