Chapter 9 - The Final Confrontation: Julian’s Last Stand

Vincent reached the heavy mahogany double doors of the master study at the end of the east wing, his heart pounding with cold, lethal fury.

He didn’t bother knocking or announcing his arrival; instead, he raised his heavy combat boot and kicked the deadbolted doors inward with a deafening crash.

The splintered wood flew inward as Vincent surged into the sprawling, book-lined study with his suppressed carbine raised and locked on target.

Sitting behind a massive antique mahogany desk was Julian Bellandi, casually sipping his scotch as if he were expecting a routine business guest rather than an enraged nephew.

“Well, well, well. I always knew you had your father’s stubborn temper, Vincent, but breaking into my study with an assault rifle is a bit dramatic, isn’t it?” Julian chuckled smoothly.

Julian didn’t even bother reaching for the golden revolver resting inside his open desk drawer, instead leaning back in his leather chair with an infuriating smirk.

“The game is over, Uncle Julian,” Vincent stated coldly, keeping the barrel of his carbine locked dead-center on his uncle’s chest. “You faked your death, you orchestrated a corporate conspiracy, and you murdered my wife.”

Julian set his crystal glass down on the desk with a soft clink, spreading his hands wide in a gesture of exaggerated innocence.

“Murdered Eleanor? Please, Vincent. Eleanor was a liability who didn’t understand the brutal realities of maintaining a global shipping monopoly,” Julian rationalized calmly.

“She had more integrity in her little finger than you’ve had in your entire wretched life,” Vincent snarled, taking two deliberate steps closer to the desk.

“Integrity doesn’t keep shipping lanes open when foreign cartels and corrupt governments demand their cut, Vincent. Power does,” Julian shot back, his voice hardening slightly.

“And now that power belongs to me, because your entire network has been dismantled, your bank accounts in Zurich are frozen, and your mercenaries are currently tied up in your wine cellar,” Vincent revealed with lethal satisfaction.

For the first time since Vincent burst into the room, the color drained slightly from Julian’s face as the true scope of his defeat finally registered.

“You… you froze the Zurich accounts?” Julian stammered, leaning forward over the desk as his carefully constructed empire began to crumble to dust.

“Every single dollar of V.H. Holdings is currently locked under federal criminal investigation and corporate asset seizure,” Vincent confirmed, lowering his carbine just an inch.

Suddenly, Julian’s expression shifted from panic to a sick, twisted smile as he reached slowly into his jacket pocket with two fingers.

“You might have my money, Vincent, but you don’t have absolute control,” Julian whispered, pulling out a small, encrypted remote detonator with a flashing red LED light.

“Put your hands on the desk where I can see them, right now!” Vincent barked, snapping his carbine back up to eye level and stepping forward.

“If I press this button, the entire cliffside villa—including us and all the evidence linking the board to this syndicate—goes up in smoke,” Julian threatened maniacally.

Before Julian’s thumb could depress the detonator trigger, the study door flew open behind Vincent, and Vance stepped into the room with his sidearm drawn and aimed.

“Don’t do it, Julian,” Vance warned sharply.

Julian laughed hysterically, his eyes wild with desperate adrenaline as he pressed down hard on the red button with his thumb.

Nothing happened.

The flashing red LED light sputtered and died instantly as a faint smell of burnt microchips drifted from the remote in Julian’s hand.

Vance casually lowered his sidearm slightly, tapping a small signal-jamming device clipped to his tactical belt with a smug grin.

“Did you really think we didn’t sweep your communication frequencies for remote charges before breaching the study, Julian?” Vance mocked smoothly.

Julian stared down at the dead remote in his hand, his mouth opening in shock as the final weapon in his arsenal completely failed him.

Vincent strode forward across the Persian rug, grabbed his uncle by the lapels of his expensive linen suit, and hauled him completely out of his chair.

With a swift, brutal punch to the jaw, Vincent sent Julian crashing backward over the antique desk, knocking him unconscious onto the floor amidst a scatter of legal papers.

“Tie him up, Vance. We’re taking him back to the estate to face the board, the authorities, and a real family reckoning,” Vincent commanded, breathing heavily as he holstered his weapon.
