Chapter 10 - The Final Balance

The wedding was not the quiet, understated affair one might expect from a former accountant who had spent her youth in secluded silence. It was a magnificent, breathtaking ceremony held on the sprawling cliffside grounds of the Gallow estate, overlooking the vast, endless expanse of the Pacific Ocean.

The guest list was a fascinating, dangerous tapestry of the city’s most powerful figures—high-ranking corporate executives, foreign diplomats, federal magistrates who knew better than to ask uncomfortable questions, and polished syndicate leaders who stood in respectful silence as the dreaded Dominic Gallow claimed his bride.

As I walked down the white-petaled aisle in a sweeping lace-and-silk wedding gown, my hair cascading in soft waves over my shoulders, I caught sight of my reflection in the massive mirror at the altar archway. I didn't see the tired, invisible girl who used to change diapers in a freezing apartment, praying for someone to notice she existed. I saw a woman of immense strength, razor-sharp intellect, and unshakable grace, standing proudly beside the man who loved her with fierce, absolute devotion.

When we exchanged our vows, Dominic’s deep, steady voice carried over the quiet murmur of the ocean waves, promising a lifetime of protection, loyalty, and unwavering passion. And when he pulled back my veil to seal our union with a long, breathtaking kiss, the entire cliffside erupted into thunderous applause.

The reception that followed under the starlit canopy was a masterclass in elegance and power. Laughter, music, and the clinking of crystal champagne flutes echoed across the terraces. For the first time in my life, I looked around a crowded room and felt entirely, perfectly at home.

Late that night, long after the guests had departed and the last strains of music faded into the gentle whisper of the sea breeze, Dominic led me away from the grand ballroom up to the master suite overlooking the moonlit waves.

As the heavy oak door clicked shut behind us, locking the rest of the world outside, Dominic pulled me flush against his chest, his dark eyes burning with the same intense, hungry devotion that had marked our very first night together.

“You’re home, Norah,” he whispered against my lips.

“I am,” I replied softly, sliding my arms around his neck, finally understanding the true equation of my life.

The numbers had always added up in the end, balancing out every lonely year, every sacrifice, and every tear into a single, perfect sum: I had lost a dying past, but I had gained an eternity wrapped in the arms of a king.
