Chapter 10 - The Reunion in the Ruins and the First Crack in the Empire

Sebastian stood motionless in the ruined doorway of the federal server room, his gray eyes sweeping the chaotic space with lethal, unblinking intensity until they locked onto Valerie.
The federal holding facility hadn't broken him; if anything, the brief imprisonment had only sharpened his predatory instincts, hardening his features into an even more formidable mask of absolute power.
Valerie scrambled up from the floor, her heart hammering wildly against her ribs as Sebastian crossed the room in three long, terrifying strides.
He didn't say a word. He simply hauled her against his chest with a desperate, crushing intensity that knocked the remaining breath entirely out of her lungs.
His face buried deep in the crook of her neck, his strong arms wrapping around her waist as if he were holding onto the only real thing left in a crumbling world.
"You absolute fool," Sebastian whispered fiercely against her skin, his voice trembling with a raw, terrifying emotion that he never allowed anyone else to witness.
"You could have gotten yourself killed tracking down those server logs."
"And you would be sitting in a supermax prison for the rest of your life if I hadn't," Valerie retorted softly, pulling back just enough to look up into his striking gray eyes.
Nick Vance cleared his throat loudly from the corner of the room, leaning against the server rack while casually watching the emotional reunion with an amused smirk.
"I hate to interrupt the domestic bliss, Sebastian, but we still have an attorney to hunt down before she catches a private flight to Zurich," Nick pointed out dryly.
Sebastian slowly released Valerie, though his hand remained firmly possessive around her waist as he turned his lethal gaze toward the former federal investigator.
"Mara Feldman's private jet is scheduled to depart from Teterboro Airport at 5:00 AM," Sebastian stated, every muscle in his imposing frame tightening with cold, calculated vengeance.
"Her assets have already been frozen by the Inspector General’s office, which means she’s running on pure desperation now."
"Good," Nick nodded, pulling the flash drive from his pocket and tossing it accurately to the syndicate boss. "Then let's go ground her flight permanently."
Valerie looked between the two powerful men—the former federal investigator and the ruthless mafia boss—realizing that an unprecedented alliance had just been forged in the fires of betrayal.
They walked out of the fourth-floor server room together, stepping over the zip-tied forms of the corrupt marshals and heading straight toward the roof helipad where Sebastian’s private transport waited.
As the helicopter blades began to spin into a deafening roar overhead, Sebastian pulled Valerie close against his side, his fingers tracing the soft skin of her jawline.
"When this is over," Sebastian murmured over the rising din of the engine, his gray eyes burning with an intense, unwavering promise.

"We are going to talk about last night. And we are going to talk about what comes next."
Valerie nodded slowly, a quiet, fierce smile touching the corners of her lips as the helicopter lifted off the rooftop and soared out into the stormy Manhattan sky.
