Chapter 4 - The Judgment of the Obsidian King

Before Serena could scramble backward to reach the heavy double doors, Victor raised two fingers in a sharp, decisive gesture toward the perimeter shadows.

From the darkness, two massive bodyguards emerged instantly, moving with the cold, silent efficiency of executioners.

In less than three seconds, Serena’s arms were pinned tightly behind her back, her designer coat straining at the seams as she let out a piercing, hysterical shriek of absolute outrage.

"Let me go! Do you know who my father is?! Do you know what the Montigue family will do to you for this?!" Serena thrashed wildly, her manicured nails scratching uselessly against the air.

"Victor, you can't do this to me! We are elites! We are above these common gutter rats! Let me go, you psychotic animal!"

Victor didn't even blink.

He walked past her thrashing form as if she were nothing more than an annoying insect buzzing around his head, dropping back down onto his knees beside his injured son.

The moment Victor touched Ethan’s good shoulder, the baby’s cries softened slightly into ragged, exhausted whimpers, instinctively recognizing the deep, protective scent of his father.

Gently, with an astonishing tenderness that contrasted violently with his terrifying reputation, Victor scooped his son up into his arms, supporting the dangling, fractured arm with careful, practiced precision.

"Get the private physician down to the master wing immediately," Victor ordered without looking back, his voice cutting through Serena’s ongoing hysterics.

"And prep the vehicle. We are moving to the private surgical suite at Northwestern."

"Right away, Boss," one of the operatives responded instantly, hauling Serena toward the service elevator while ignoring her continuous, high-pitched shrieks of terror.

As Serena was dragged away, her voice echoing down the marble corridors until it faded into the distance, Victor turned his attention back to Lily, who was still struggling to pull herself up from the floor.

His obsidian gaze softened by a microscopic fraction as he looked down at the young nanny who had thrown herself between a mafia boss’s fiancée and an innocent child at the cost of her own safety.

"Can you stand?" Victor asked, his voice low and steady.

Lily gritted her teeth, pressing a hand against her throbbing abdomen, and forced her legs to lock beneath her.

"Yes, Mr. Blackwood," she managed, swaying slightly before steadying herself against the marble wall.

"Good," Victor said, turning toward the private elevator holding his injured son securely against his chest.

"Because you are coming with us. If you leave my sight today, I won't be able to guarantee your safety from what remains of Serena’s family. And secondly..."

May you like

He paused, turning his head slightly to look back at Lily with an expression that brooked no argument.

"You are the only person in this house my son trusts right now. You’re not going anywhere, Lily. Not unless you want to find out what happens when you try to resign from the Blackwood household."
