Chapter 8 - THE PRIVATE SECURITY CONFRONTATION: ENTER HARRISON VANCE’S ENFORCERS

Luca stood frozen in front of the intercom speaker, his brain struggling to process the automated words.

A private residential property owned by Harrison Vance.

Harrison Vance? The billionaire venture capitalist who had been trying to buy this land for two years?

That was impossible. The house belonged to Jessi. It was her baby, her pride, her asset. She would never sell it—especially not without consulting him, her husband, the man who supposedly ran the household.

“Listen to me, you automated idiot,” Luca yelled into the intercom, his face flushing with sudden rage. “I am Luca Hails! I live here! My wife is Jessica Hails! Open this gate right now or I’ll call the police and have you arrested for trespassing on my property!”

Before the intercom could reply, the crunch of heavy gravel echoed behind him.

Luca turned around to see a sleek black Ford Explorer idling smoothly right behind his rented Mercedes SUV, blocking any possibility of backing out.

Two men in sharp tactical suits, wearing dark sunglasses and earpieces, stepped out of the Explorer with calm, deliberate movements. They didn't look like local police officers; they looked like federal agents or private security contractors straight out of a Hollywood thriller.

“Mr. Luca Hails?” the lead security guard asked, his voice entirely flat and devoid of emotion.

“Yes, I am,” Luca barked, puffing out his chest as he tried to project an air of outraged authority. “And you’re trespassing on private property. My wife and I own this estate, and I demand to know why my smart-home app has been locked out.”

The guard reached into his jacket pocket, pulled out a thick manila envelope, and handed it directly to Luca.

“You and your family no longer own, occupy, or have any legal right to enter this property,” the guard stated smoothly. “The estate at Redwood Crest Drive was purchased in full via cash transaction by Mr. Harrison Vance, effective Monday morning at 9:00 AM. Here is your official notice of eviction and property vacation.”

Luca stared at the manila envelope as if it were holding a venomous snake. His hands began to shake slightly.

“Sold?” Luca stammered, his voice cracking. “That’s... that’s absurd. Jessi couldn't sell this house without my signature! We’re married! We’re a family! Where is my wife? Where is Jessica? Call her right now!”

“Your former wife—or rather, the previous sole owner of record—executed a valid, legally binding cash-sale contract supported by an ironclad prenuptial agreement that explicitly excludes marital property claims on real estate,” the security guard recited with mechanical precision. “As for your personal belongings, they have been professionally packed and transferred to a secure storage facility in downtown Boulder. Here is your receipt and unit access code.”

The guard handed a small white business card to Luca’s trembling fingers, turned around, and walked back to his Ford Explorer without another word.
