Chapter 4 - The Dangerous Proposition and the Hospital Debt

The heavy mahogany door of Lorenzo Bianchi’s private penthouse office overlooking the glittering Chicago skyline clicked shut with a soft, expensive latch.
Sienna stood near the center of the sprawling, minimalist room, feeling entirely out of place in her simple waitress uniform amid the priceless modern art and floor-to-ceiling windows.
Matthew Rossi stood silently near the doorway like a loyal guard dog, his sharp eyes monitoring Sienna’s every micro-expression for any sign of betrayal or deceit.
Lorenzo walked over to the sleek marble wet bar, poured two fingers of unadulterated bourbon into a crystal tumbler, and took a slow, deliberate sip before turning around.
"Sit down, Sienna," Lorenzo instructed quietly, gesturing toward a plush leather armchair situated in front of his oversized mahogany desk.
"I prefer to stand, Mr. Bianchi," Sienna replied stiffly, keeping her hands clasped tightly together in front of her white apron to hide her persistent trembling.
Lorenzo let out a soft, humorless breath that sounded almost like a sigh, walking slowly across the plush Persian rug until he stopped just a few feet away from her.
"Stubborn," Lorenzo murmured, almost to himself, before speaking with firm, chilling clarity.
"Matthew already pulled your file from the Velvet Note's human resources database, along with your public civil records."
"I know about your move from New Orleans eight months ago, I know about your messy fallout with your previous landlord down south, and most importantly, I know about Leo."
Sienna flinched as if she had been physically struck, her protective instincts flaring up instantly at the mention of her vulnerable younger brother.
"Leave Leo out of this," Sienna snapped defensively, her dark eyes flashing with sudden, unexpected defiance despite the overwhelming power imbalance in the room.
"He has nothing to do with your club, your syndicate, or whatever twisted games wealthy men play in this city."
"He has everything to do with this conversation because his life is currently hanging by a very thin financial thread," Lorenzo countered calmly, his tone devoid of any mockery or threat.
"According to our contacts at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, your brother's accumulative medical debt and upcoming physical therapy treatments total exactly eighty-four thousand dollars."
"And your current earnings as a waitress at my club would take you approximately four years to pay that off, assuming rent, groceries, and sudden emergencies don't drain your accounts first."
Sienna felt a hot tear of pure frustration prick the corner of her eyes, hating the brutal reality of her financial imprisonment in a city that felt entirely hostile.
"What do you want from me, Mr. Bianchi?" Sienna asked quietly, her voice cracking slightly as she finally surrendered to the undeniable gravity of her situation.
"You don't just hand out eighty-four thousand dollars and permanent residency contracts to random waitresses out of pure charitable goodness."
"What is the catch?" Lorenzo walked back to his desk, picked up a single manila folder, and tossed it gently onto the polished wood surface between them.
"The catch is simple, Sienna," Lorenzo said, leaning his hips against the edge of the desk and looking directly into her eyes.
"You sing exclusively at the Velvet Note four nights a week, you keep your private life completely discreet, and you accept my personal protection against any outside elements that might try to bother you."
"Why?" Sienna whispered, genuinely baffled by the unusual terms. "Why offer me protection and clear my brother's debt just because of a song?"
"Because, Miss Holloway," Lorenzo replied, his pale hazel gaze turning dark and distant as he looked out through the massive glass windows toward the twinkling lights of Michigan Avenue.
"For three years, this city has been completely silent to me."
"Tonight, for the first time since the night I lost everything, I felt something other than cold rage inside my chest."
"You hold a rare, dangerous power over my sanity, Sienna, and in my world, I protect what affects me."
Before Sienna could process the profound weight of his confession, Matthew Rossi stepped forward and handed her a formal employment contract complete with a pre-signed bank check covering Leo's medical debt in full.

"Sign the contract, Sienna, and your brother's hospital account is settled before midnight tonight," Matthew stated matter-of-factly.
Sienna looked down at the slip of paper representing her brother's salvation, knowing full well that by signing her name, she was willingly stepping deeper into the lethal, glittering web of Chicago's most feared mafia boss.
