Chapter 10 - An Intimate Invitation

The final applause of Sienna’s second set echoed softly through the velvet-draped walls of the club as she stepped backstage into the quiet corridor.

Her chest heaved with a mixture of exhaustion and exhilaration, her hands trembling slightly as she unclipped her microphone pack.

Before she could even take a sip of water from the dressing room table, a heavy, familiar knock sounded against the wooden door.

"Come in," Sienna said quietly, turning around to face the entryway as the door clicked open smoothly.

Matthew Rossi stepped aside, and Lorenzo Bianchi walked into the small dressing room, filling the space with his commanding presence.

The door clicked shut behind Matthew, leaving Sienna alone with the most feared syndicate boss in Chicago.

Up close, the lingering warmth of the subtle smile he had given her during the performance still echoed faintly in the corners of his eyes.

"You captivated the entire room tonight, Sienna," Lorenzo said, his voice a low, gravelly baritone that vibrated through the intimate space.

"I didn't realize performing for Chicago's elite criminals would feel so terrifyingly natural," Sienna replied, crossing her arms defensively.

Lorenzo took a slow step closer, his pale hazel gaze fixed entirely on her expressive, tired eyes.

"You are no longer performing for criminals, Sienna; you are performing for your audience, under my personal protection," Lorenzo corrected firmly.

"Speaking of protection, I need to know something, and I expect total honesty from you."

Sienna tensed instantly, her defensive instincts flaring up as she tilted her chin upward to meet his gaze head-on.

"About what?" she asked sharply. "My brother's medical debt is paid, my contract is signed, so what else could you possibly want to dig up?"

"Frankie Marcone," Lorenzo stated calmly, watching her reaction with clinical precision.

The color instantly drained from Sienna’s face, her breath catching in her throat as the ghosts of her New Orleans past came rushing back to haunt her.

"How... how do you know about Frankie?" Sienna whispered, her voice trembling as fear gripped her heart.

"In my city, nothing stays hidden for long, especially when it threatens someone under my roof," Lorenzo replied, stepping close enough that she could feel the faint warmth radiating from his tailored suit.

"Marcone is currently on a flight from New Orleans to O'Hare, believing he can use your past debts to pressure my organization."

Sienna squeezed her eyes shut, a tear slipping down her cheek as she realized her presence had brought violence straight to Lorenzo's doorstep.

"I'm sorry," Sienna choked out, turning away from him in sheer despair. "I tried to run away from him so he would never find us."

"You don't need to run anymore, Sienna," Lorenzo commanded softly, reaching out to gently touch her shoulder with a warmth she had never expected from him.

"Marcone will land in Chicago tonight, but he will never walk out of the airport."

"You belong to the Velvet Note now, and in my world, nobody touches what is mine."CHAPTER 11 — The Terminal Interception at O'Hare

The midnight breeze sweeping across the tarmac at O'Hare International Airport was biting and carried the sharp scent of impending winter.

Flight 412 from New Orleans touched down smoothly on the damp runway, its wheels screeching slightly against the concrete.

Among the passengers streaming through Terminal 3 was a slick, sharp-dressed man wearing an overly loud snakeskin belt and an expensive gold Rolex.

His name was Frankie Marcone, a second-rate loan shark from the French Quarter who believed his petty intimidation tactics worked anywhere in the country.

He carried a leather briefcase filled with forged debt contracts and old promissory notes signed by desperate souls like Sienna Holloway.

Frankie walked briskly toward the baggage claim area, flashing a confident, predatory smirk as he envisioned shaking down Chicago's newest jazz sensation.

He had assumed that a frightened waitress from Louisiana would be an easy target to exploit for high-level syndicate leverage.

What Frankie failed to realize was that Chicago was not New Orleans, and the Velvet Note was under the absolute protection of a ghost who walked in Tom Ford suits.

Before Frankie could even reach the sliding glass exit doors, three towering men in heavy dark overcoats stepped seamlessly into his path.

Their faces were carved from uncompromising granite, their broad shoulders completely blocking any escape route toward the taxi stands.

"Frankie Marcone?" asked Matthew Rossi, his voice cutting through the ambient airport noise like a sharp razor blade.

Frankie stopped dead in his tracks, his eyes darting frantically around the crowded terminal as he recognized the unmistakable aura of professional enforcers.

"Who the hell are you, and what do you want?" Frankie bluffed loudly, puffing out his chest while his hand twitched nervously toward his jacket pocket.

"You are trespassing in a city where your name carries zero weight, Marcone," Matthew stated coldly, stepping closer without blinking.

Before Frankie could draw the concealed pistol from his holster, one of the enforcers moved with blinding speed, pinning his arms behind his back.

Another operative efficiently relieved him of his briefcase and weapon in a single, fluid motion that bypassed the notice of nearby travelers.

"You can't do this, I have connections down south, you'll hear from my associates!" Frankie shrieked, his voice cracking with sudden, overwhelming terror.

"Your associates in New Orleans are currently being dismantled by our regional assets as we speak," Matthew whispered into Frankie’s ear.

Without another word, the enforcers hoisted the struggling loan shark off his feet and hustled him toward a waiting black armored SUV parked illegally in the red zone.

The heavy doors slammed shut with a dull, echoing thud, and the vehicle vanished into the Chicago night before the airport security cameras could even adjust.
