Chapter 6 - The Suitcase Secret

Chloe told me she was going to take a shower.

I heard the water running upstairs.

I knew I shouldn't snoop.

But the feeling in my gut was screaming at me.

I quietly walked up the stairs.

The guest room door was slightly open.

Her massive suitcase was lying open on the bed.

Clothes were scattered everywhere.

But beneath a pile of sweaters, I saw the corner of a manila folder.

I walked into the room.

My hands were shaking as I pulled the folder out.

I opened it.

My breath caught in my throat.

Inside were perfectly crisp, color copies of my personal bank statements.

Every account. Every balance.

Beneath that was a photocopy of my passport.

And beneath that was a legal document.

It had a gold seal at the top.

It was a Power of Attorney form.

It named Chloe as my sole financial and medical representative.

It gave her the power to sell my assets, empty my accounts, and put me in a home.

I looked at the bottom of the page.

There was my signature again.

Forged. Perfectly forged.

The date on the document was three months ago.

Long before she and Mark "sold" their house.

Suddenly, the entire horrifying picture became clear.

Chloe wasn't a victim.

She was the mastermind.

Mark's mistress was just a distraction.

The $500,000 house sale was just phase one.

The real prize was my estate. My millions.

She was going to use this forged POA to drain my accounts and take everything I owned.

Tears pricked my eyes, not from sadness, but from pure, blinding rage.

My own daughter.

May you like

My flesh and blood.

She had planned to destroy me.
