Chapter 11 - The Arrest

Evan completely broke down. The arrogant, controlling man who had forced his wife and child to sleep in a grocery store parking lot began to sob like a child.
"Delilah! Baby, please!" Evan pleaded, turning to my daughter. "Tell them! Tell them it was a misunderstanding! I was just stressed about money, I didn't mean to kick you out. I love you!"
Delilah stood tall, her shoulders squared. She looked at the man who had tormented her for years, and for the first time, she felt absolutely nothing for him.
"You didn't care about a misunderstanding when Noah was sleeping in a freezing car," Delilah said, her voice steady and ice-cold. "You are dead to us, Evan. I want a divorce, and I want full custody."
Two police officers entered the conference room. They had been waiting in the lobby.
"Evan Mercer?" one officer asked. "You're under arrest for suspicion of wire fraud, forgery, and attempted grand larceny."

As they slapped the handcuffs on Evan, Margaret tried to push past the officers, screaming obscenities at Delilah and me. "I'll destroy the house! I'll burn it to the ground before I let you have it back!"
The second officer turned to her. "Ma'am, making terroristic threats regarding property destruction is also a crime. You need to step back."
