Chapter 10 - Dawn Over the Costa Estate

The first rays of golden sunlight crested over the eastern horizon, painting the sprawling grounds of the Costa estate in warm, peaceful hues.
The chaos of the wedding, the betrayal, and the midnight raids felt like a distant nightmare as the morning breeze rustled through the oak trees.
Inside the master suite, the heavy velvet curtains were drawn back to let in the fresh morning air.
Harper sat propped up against the pillows, wearing a loose silk robe, sipping a cup of hot chamomile tea.
The door clicked open, and Roman walked into the room carrying a small silver tray with a plate of fresh fruit and toast.
“How is the patient holding up?” Roman asked softly, setting the tray down on the bedside table.
“The patient is surviving entirely on caffeine and stubbornness,” Harper replied with a genuine smile, setting her teacup down.
“Elena is gone,” Roman said, sitting down on the edge of the mattress and looking directly into her eyes.
“And Rossi is locked away in a federal holding facility awaiting the commission’s final asset seizure.”
“So the war is over?” Harper asked, tilting her head slightly.
“The war is over,” Roman confirmed, reaching out to gently trace the edge of her jawline.
“And the financial books are finally balanced.”
Harper let out a long breath she felt like she had been holding for forty-eight hours.
“Good,” she whispered, leaning into his touch.
“Because I really didn’t want my honeymoon to be interrupted by another gunshot wound.”

Roman chuckled, his dark eyes warming with a deep, undeniable affection she had never seen before.
“I promise you, Mrs. Costa,” Roman whispered, leaning in closer until his lips brushed hers.
