Chapter 9 - The Final Ambush at the Municipal Airstrip

The cold wind whipped across the tarmac of the private municipal airstrip, carrying the sharp scent of jet fuel and impending rain.
A sleek twin-engine private jet sat idling on the runway, its turbine engines screaming against the midnight quiet.
Elena Costa hurried across the open tarmac in a heavy designer trench coat, clutching a leather briefcase stuffed with bearer bonds and passport documents.
Her high heels clicked frantically against the concrete as she rushed toward the aircraft stairs.
Before she could reach the metal steps, the blinding headlights of three black armored SUVs cut through the darkness.
The vehicles screeched to a halt in a tight semicircle, blocking the runway access completely.
Elena froze in her tracks, her breath catching in her throat as the doors of the lead vehicle swung open.
Roman stepped out into the wind, his long black coat billowing behind him like the wings of a predatory bird.
Behind him, Marcus and a dozen heavily armed enforcers fanned out across the tarmac, cutting off every possible escape route.
“Going somewhere, Elena?” Roman’s voice echoed coldly across the open space.
Elena turned around slowly, forcing a nervous, defensive smile onto her face.
“Roman, thank goodness,” she stammered, stepping toward him with open arms.
“I heard about Rossi’s betrayal and came as fast as I could to secure the perimeter assets.”
Roman stopped ten feet away from her, his expression devoid of any familial warmth.
“You didn’t come to secure the assets, Elena,” Roman stated flatly, lifting the tablet displaying her digital signature.
“You came to cash out your share of the blood money after selling our family secrets to a rival syndicate.”
Elena’s fake smile vanished instantly, replaced by a bitter, venomous glare.
“And what if I did?” she hissed, dropping all pretense as she clutched her briefcase tighter.
“You’ve run this family like a tyrant for ten years, Roman.”
“You give all the power to accountants and enforcers while the rest of us starve in the background!”
“She’s an accountant!” Elena screamed, pointing a shaking finger back toward the SUV where Harper sat watching from the window.
“You risked an entire syndicate war for a woman who crunches numbers!”
“She is my wife,” Roman replied, his voice ringing with absolute finality.
“And she has more loyalty in her little finger than you have in your entire bloodline.”
Elena’s eyes darted frantically toward the idling jet stairs, weighing her chances of making a desperate run for it.
“Don’t even think about it,” Marcus warned, leveling his rifle directly at the aircraft's landing gear.
Roman walked slowly toward his cousin, stopping just inches away from her face.
“Under syndicate law, treason against the family carries only one penalty,” Roman whispered coldly.
“You are stripped of your name, your assets, and your protection.”
“You’re banished from this city tonight, and if you ever set foot in our territory again, I won’t waste bullets on a trial.”
Elena stared into his unblinking eyes and realized she had lost everything.
May you like
She dropped her leather briefcase onto the tarmac with a heavy thud, turning away in bitter defeat as two guards escorted her toward a waiting transport vehicle.
Roman watched her go, his expression remaining hard as stone.
