Chapter 15 - The Vow of Blood and Silk

Six months had passed since the night the glass chandelier fell in the grand foyer.

The summer sun shone brilliantly over the rolling vineyards of the Costa estate’s private northern valley.

The wreckage of war had been completely erased, replaced by blooming white hydrangeas, manicured hedges, and restored limestone archways.

Don Alberto Moretti had been formally indicted on federal racketeering and treason charges, his empire dismantled piece by piece using the uncorrupted financial records Harper had preserved.

Elena Costa had accepted a twenty-year plea deal, spending her days in a maximum-security federal facility thousands of miles away from the city she had tried to burn.

Under Harper’s brilliant restructuring, the Costa syndicate had transitioned seventy percent of its operations into legitimate shipping, green logistics, and clean municipal development.

The underworld feared Roman Costa more than ever, not because he was reckless, but because his empire was now untouchable, bulletproof, and legally sound.

Beneath an open-air pavilion draped in cascading white wisteria, three hundred guests sat in respectful silence.

There were no bodyguards visibly patrolling the aisles with automatic weapons; the security was invisible, seamless, and absolute.

Roman stood at the end of the stone aisle wearing a tailored midnight-black tuxedo, his broad shoulders squared, his gaze fixed entirely on the double wooden doors of the pavilion.

Beside him, Marcus stood as his best man, clean-shaven and standing at proud attention.

The string quartet began to play a slow, breathtaking rendition of a classic waltz.

The wooden doors swung open, and the breath caught in Roman’s throat.

Harper stepped onto the white carpet, bathed in the warm, golden afternoon sunlight.

She wore a breathtaking, custom-designed gown of pure ivory silk, its long lace train floating effortlessly behind her over the stone path.

There were no hidden bandages beneath the silk today.

There was no crimson blood soaking through the waistline, no chattering teeth from shock, and no lies whispered through clenched smiles.

Her dark hair was swept up in an elegant arrangement pinned with tiny diamond blossoms, and her cheeks were flushed with radiant, vibrant life.

As she walked toward him, her dark eyes locked onto his, carrying a quiet, unshakeable promise that had survived fire, treason, and lead.

She reached the altar, and Roman stepped forward to take both of her hands into his own.

His touch was remarkably gentle, reverent, and completely free of the terrifying tension that had haunted them on their first wedding night.

“You took your time walking down the aisle this time, Mrs. Costa,” Roman whispered, a brilliant, genuine smile lighting up his rugged face.

“I wanted to make sure I didn't have to run from any snipers on the way to the altar,” Harper teased back softly, her eyes sparkling with tears of pure joy.

The elderly priest smiled warmly at the couple before clearing his throat to begin the ceremony.

“We are gathered here today to witness not the beginning of a contract, but the celebration of a bond forged through fire, sacrifice, and absolute devotion.”

When the time came for the vows, Roman didn't look at the prepared card in his pocket.

He held Harper’s hands tighter, his deep, resonant voice carrying clearly over the gentle summer breeze.

“Three years ago, you walked into my life and brought order to my chaos,” Roman said, his eyes unblinking and full of devotion.

“Six months ago, you bled for this family without asking for anything in return.”

“You showed me that true strength isn't found in the guns we carry or the fear we command, but in the loyalty we choose to protect.”

“I gave you my name to keep you safe, Harper.”

“Today, I give you my life, my soul, and every breath I have left on this earth.”

Tears spilled freely over Harper’s eyelashes, tracking shining paths down her smiling cheeks.

She lifted her chin, her voice steady and ringing with an ironclad certainty that moved every hardened soul in the audience.

“I fell in love with you when you were a man living in the shadows, Roman,” Harper whispered, her fingers curling tightly around his.

“I walked down an aisle with a bullet in my ribs because I refused to let your enemies steal your future.”

“I promise to stand beside you in the light just as fiercely as I stood beside you in the dark.”

“No more secrets, no more hidden wounds, and no more dancing through the pain.”

“Wherever you lead, I will balance the ledger, and whatever you face, we will conquer together.”

“By the authority vested in me,” the priest pronounced, lifting his hands in a final blessing, “I now pronounce you husband and wife.”

“Roman, you may kiss your bride.”

Roman didn't wait.

He wrapped his powerful arms around Harper’s waist, lifting her slightly off the ground as he pulled her into a deep, passionate kiss beneath the falling wisteria petals.

The guests erupted into a deafening roar of applause, cheers echoing across the green valley.

Roman set her gently back onto her feet, his forehead resting against hers as they caught their breath together.

On the lapel of his pristine wedding jacket, there was not a single drop of blood.

Only the sweet scent of white flowers, the warmth of the sun, and the golden band of a love that had conquered an empire.
