Chapter 1 - THE OAK TABLE AND THE RAZOR SHARD

Julian stood in the center of the shattered dining room, his chest heaving with arrogant triumph, expecting me to cower. His right hand was raised high, weaponized by pure machismo, ready to deliver a blow that he believed would permanently break my spirit. He had completely miscalculated the woman standing before him.
Instead of shrinking away in tears, I didn't even flinch as his shadow loomed over me. The razor-sharp shard of porcelain in my hand felt cool, perfectly balanced between my fingers like a scalpel ready for a precise incision.
"Go ahead," I whispered, stepping half an inch closer rather than backing away. "Show me how a real man disciplines his wife."
Julian’s hand froze mid-air, his arm trembling slightly under the sudden, crushing weight of my unblinking gaze. The absolute absence of fear in my eyes pierced straight through his drunken display of authority.
"You're out of your mind," Julian muttered, lowering his hand slowly while trying to regain his composure. "Put that glass down right now before you cut yourself like a clumsy fool."
"Clumsy?" I let out a low, humorless chuckle that sent a visible shiver down his spine. "Julian, honey, you haven't even seen clumsy yet. But you're about to learn a very expensive lesson about whose roof you're actually standing under."
Before he could process the icy warning in my tone, my left hand whipped up from behind my back, holding my smartphone up directly in front of his face. The screen was glowing brightly, displaying an active, high-definition live-feed recording of every single second of his pathetic tantrum.
Julian’s face drained of color instantly, the arrogant sneer melting into abject horror as he stared at the glowing screen. "What... what is that?" he stammered, taking an involuntary step back as his heel caught on a jagged piece of the ruined table.
"That is exhibit A," I said smoothly, locking my phone screen and slipping it safely into my apron pocket. "Audio, high-definition video, and biometric timestamping linked directly to my cloud storage. Every threat, every curse, and your little display of property damage is already backed up where you can never touch it."
"Delete that right now, Elena!" Julian roared, lunging forward with a desperate grab for my wrist, completely dropping his gentlemanly facade. "Are you fucking insane? You recorded me?"
I sidestepped his clumsy lunge with the effortless grace of someone who had survived far worse in the brutal corporate finance trenches. "Step back, Julian. If you touch me with so much as a fingertip right now, that video goes straight to your precious corporate law partners at Sterling & Vance."
Julian froze mid-stride, his hands hovering uselessly in the air as the reality of his impending professional ruin crashed down on him. Sterling & Vance had zero tolerance for domestic violence or unhinged public scandals, a fact Julian knew better than anyone.
"You wouldn't dare," Julian whispered, his voice cracking with sudden, desperate panic as he realized his entire career was dangling by a thread. "We've been married for exactly seventy-two hours, Elena. Think of what this does to us."
"There is no 'us,' Julian. There is only a parasite who thought he could trap a self-made woman in her own home," I replied, my voice dropping to a glacial whisper. "Now, you are going to pack your cheap designer bags, walk out that front door, and never look back."

"You can't just kick me out!" Julian shouted, his rage flaring back up through his terror like dying embers catching wind. "We're legally married! Half of this condo, half of everything I walked in here with—it's mine by law!"
I smiled, a sharp, dangerous expression that promised total devastation. "Oh, sweetie. Did you really think a senior corporate financial restructuring analyst wouldn't protect her assets before signing a marriage certificate?"
