Chapter 10 - The Engagement Party

The grand ballroom of the estate was transformed into a glittering wonderland.

Chandeliers sparkled overhead, and a string quartet played elegant classical music.

Hundreds of wealthy investors, politicians, and socialites filled the room.

Roxanne wore a breathtaking custom designer gown, dripping in diamonds she hadn't paid for.

She clung to Ethan's arm, flashing picture-perfect smiles for the hired photographers.

"Isn't it wonderful, darling?" Roxanne whispered, waving to a senator.

"It's certainly unforgettable," Ethan replied, his voice completely hollow.

Across the room, Sarah stood quietly near the massive arched windows.

She had traded her gray maid's uniform for a simple, elegant navy blue dress she owned, the sapphire necklace catching the light.

Roxanne spotted her and her smile instantly vanished.

She marched over to Ethan, digging her manicured nails into his arm.

"Why is the maid out of uniform and mingling with the guests?" Roxanne demanded.

"I invited her," Ethan said calmly.

"Are you trying to humiliate me?" Roxanne hissed. "Tell her to get back to the kitchen or fire her right now!"

"I think we have more important things to discuss, Victoria," Ethan said, pulling his arm away from her grip.

He signaled to the band director.

The music slowly faded to a stop, drawing the attention of all the guests.

Ethan walked up to the grand microphone stand in the center of the room.

"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you all for coming," Ethan announced, his voice echoing through the silent ballroom.

Roxanne beamed, assuming he was about to make a romantic toast.

She stepped up beside him, ready for her moment in the spotlight.

"Tonight, we are here to celebrate truth," Ethan continued.

He pulled a small remote from his pocket.

Behind him, a massive projector screen, previously showing a slideshow of the couple, suddenly flickered.
