Chapter 13 - A New Role
The transition wasn't instantaneous, but it was beautiful.
Sarah officially resigned as the estate maid the following week.
However, she didn't pack her bags. She simply moved her belongings from the small servant's quarters into the main wing of the house.
Ethan hired new staff, ensuring they were thoroughly vetted.
Sarah and Ethan took things slow, prioritizing Leo's stability and their growing bond.
They went on actual dates, far away from the prying eyes of high society.
One crisp evening, they were walking through the estate's vast gardens.
"I never asked you about your past, Sarah," Ethan said, holding her hand as they strolled.
"There's not much to tell," Sarah admitted. "I grew up in foster care. I never had a real family."
She looked out over the rolling green hills.
"That's why when I saw Leo, I felt so protective," she explained. "I know what it's like to be helpless."
Ethan stopped walking and pulled her into a warm embrace.
"You're not alone anymore," Ethan promised.
He kissed her gently under the twilight sky.
It was perfect, quiet, and real.
The absolute opposite of the flashy, fake romance he had shared with Roxanne.
When they returned to the house, Leo was awake in the nursery.
They stood together over the crib, watching the baby babble at a mobile.
"He's going to walk soon," Sarah observed, pointing to Leo's kicking legs.
