Chapter 10 - The Confrontation

The private dining room at Le Bernardin was quiet.

Harrison sat at the head of the table, checking his watch.

Arthur Sterling sat across from him, sipping a glass of water.

“Where is Clare?” Harrison asked, annoyed.

“She was delayed,” a voice said from the doorway.

Harrison looked up.

Eleanor walked into the room, wearing a sharp black suit.

She pulled out a chair next to Arthur and sat down.

Harrison frowned. “Excuse me, this is a private table.”

“I know,” Eleanor said. “I’m family.”

Harrison looked at Arthur. “Who is this?”

Arthur cleared his throat.

“Harrison, this is Eleanor Parker.”

The wine glass slipped from Harrison’s hand.

It shattered against the edge of the table, staining the white tablecloth red.

He stared at Eleanor, his face draining of all color.

“That’s impossible.”

“You thought you burned the only copy of the will,” Eleanor said calmly.

She placed a thick manila folder onto the table.

“My father wasn't as stupid as you thought.”

Harrison didn't look at the folder. He looked at Arthur.

“You betrayed me.”

“You betrayed your father,” Arthur replied.

Harrison stood up, his chair scraping loudly against the floor.

“This is a joke. A pathetic extortion attempt. I own Mercer Holdings.”

“Not anymore,” Eleanor said.

She opened the folder, revealing the original will with William’s signature.

“Sixty percent belongs to me.”

Harrison laughed, but it was a desperate, hollow sound.

“A piece of paper from a dead man means nothing. I’ll keep you in court for a decade.”

“You won't have the money for lawyers,” Eleanor said.

She slid a second piece of paper across the table.

It was a printout from the mirrored iPad drive.

Harrison’s eyes scanned the page.

The offshore accounts. The wire transfers to Zurich. Sienna’s name.

“Where did you get this?” Harrison whispered.

“Your wife is much smarter than you,” Eleanor said.
