Chapter 12 - The Board Meeting

At 8:00 AM the next morning, the boardroom of Mercer Holdings was packed.

Twelve directors sat around a massive mahogany table.

Harrison stood at the front, sweating profusely.

“Gentlemen, there is a hostile takeover attempt happening,” Harrison began, his voice shaking.

Before he could finish, the double doors swung open.

Eleanor walked in, flanked by Arthur Sterling and two corporate security guards.

“Mr. Mercer,” the lead director said, “what is the meaning of this?”

Eleanor stepped forward.

“My name is Eleanor Parker. I am William Mercer’s daughter.”

The room erupted in murmurs.

Eleanor projected the original will onto the large screen at the front of the room.

“As you can see, I am the rightful owner of sixty percent of this company.”

Harrison slammed his fist on the table.

“It’s a forgery! Have security throw her out!”

The guards did not move.

The lead director adjusted his glasses, reading the document on the screen.

“Arthur, is this authentic?”

Arthur stood up.

“It is. I witnessed William sign it the day before he died.”

“This is a coup!” Harrison screamed.

Eleanor pressed a button on a remote.

The screen changed from the will to the offshore banking ledgers.

The room fell dead silent.

“What you are looking at,” Eleanor said loudly, “is Harrison Mercer embezzling forty million dollars from your company over the last six months.”

The directors stared at the screen in horror.

“He was planning to flee to Zurich tomorrow,” Eleanor continued.

Harrison looked wildly around the room.

He saw the disgust in the directors' eyes.

He saw his empire collapsing in real-time.

He turned and ran for the door.

He made it to the hallway before hitting a solid wall of blue uniforms.
