Chapter 10 - THE SILENCE OF THE PAST

The final chapter of their story was quiet, peaceful, and entirely their own. The mansion had been sold, the money securely invested in Lily’s future. The city had largely moved on, the scandal becoming just another memory in the fast-paced news cycle.

Evelyn was a ghost of the past, a cautionary tale whispered about in the high-society circles she once dominated. Nobody knew exactly where she was, and frankly, nobody cared. She was irrelevant.

One afternoon, Claire and Lily were sitting in their garden, watching the sunset. Lily was in her chair, her hands moving expertly across the armrests, her face bright with joy. "Mommy?" she asked.

"Yes, sweetheart?"

"I’m happy."

Claire felt tears prick her eyes, not of sorrow, but of profound, overwhelming joy. "Me too, baby. Me too."

The shadows of the past were gone, replaced by the warm, steady light of their new life. They had survived the gilded cage. They had broken the cycle. They were finally, truly free. And that was all that ever mattered.
