Chapter 6 - THE FALL OF AN EMPIRE
The verdict was swift and decisive. Evelyn was found guilty on multiple counts of child endangerment and was stripped of all control over the family trust. The mansion was to be sold, the proceeds placed into a court-supervised fund for Lily’s care. The dynasty that Evelyn had spent decades building was dismantled in a single afternoon.
The reaction was immediate. Friends and business associates abandoned her, fearful of being associated with the scandal. Evelyn was left completely alone in the echoing, half-empty mansion. She had spent her life chasing control, and in the end, she had achieved nothing but her own total destruction.
Claire was granted full custody, and the trust was restructured to provide for Lily’s immediate medical and educational needs. The relief was overwhelming. She felt as though she could finally breathe for the first time in years.
