Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Ambush and the Freezing of the Throne

The fifty-floor boardroom of Vance Enterprises was bathed in the harsh, glaring fluorescent light of an early Monday morning.

Around the polished obsidian conference table sat twelve senior board members, alongside Christian Vance, who sat at the head of the table looking impeccably polished in a charcoal-gray bespoke suit.

Beside him sat Vanessa Sterling, wearing a smug, triumphant smile, flipping through a portfolio of corporate expansion plans.

"As you can see," Christian announced smoothly, his deep, resonant voice commanding the entire room's attention, "our projected Q4 earnings will increase by forty percent following our strategic acquisition of the Sterling logistics network."

Murmurs of approval rippled through the board members, nodding in deference to their charismatic CEO.

"And with Vanessa leading our public relations and corporate expansion," Christian continued, placing a proprietary hand over Vanessa’s on the table, "Vance Enterprises is entering a golden era of absolute market dominance."

Suddenly, the heavy glass double doors of the boardroom swung open with a sharp, echoing slam.

Every head in the room snapped around in shock.

Elena walked into the boardroom.

She wasn't wearing her usual demure, muted dresses or hiding behind oversized sunglasses.

She wore a razor-sharp, ivory-white pantsuit that commanded absolute authority, her dark hair slicked back, her expression carved from cold, unyielding ice.

Christian’s smug smile instantly vanished, replaced by a flash of dark, murderous irritation as he stood up from his chair.

"Elena," Christian snapped, his voice dropping into a harsh, dangerous growl.

"What the hell are you doing here? Security escorted you out of the estate this morning. You have no business in this building."

Elena didn't stop walking until she reached the opposite end of the conference table, planting her palms firmly against the obsidian surface and leaning forward.

"Oh, but I do, Christian," Elena replied, her voice ringing clear and steady across the silent, stunned room.

"In fact, as of three hours ago, I am no longer just your wife. I am your primary litigant."

Christian let out a harsh, dismissive laugh, shaking his head.

"You're out of your mind. You signed a binding post-nuptial agreement three years ago that stripped you of any claim to this company."

"A post-nuptial agreement that you fraudulently altered by replacing page four with a forged signature," Elena countered sharply, pulling a thick legal folder from her briefcase and sliding it across the table toward him.

"Along with federal indictments for corporate embezzlement, pension fraud, and forgery."

Christian’s face drained of color, his dark eyes widening in genuine, unadulterated horror as he stared at the federal seal stamped across the top document.
