Chapter 7 - The Cold Visit in the Holding Facility

The fluorescent lighting of the federal holding facility hummed with an irritating, high-pitched buzz, casting a sickly yellow glow over the cold concrete walls and steel doors.

Elena walked down the sterile corridor, her footsteps echoing softly against the floor, escorted by a silent federal corrections officer.

She wore a simple, elegant black trench coat, her expression completely neutral, completely unreadable.

They stopped in front of holding cell number four.

Inside, sitting at a bolted-down stainless-steel table, was Christian Vance.

The charismatic billionaire titan who had once commanded skyscrapers and knelt before no man now wore an orange jumpsuit several sizes too large.

His tailored black hair was unkempt, his jaw unshaven, and his dark eyes burned with an unhinged, murderous fury.

The corrections officer unlocked the heavy iron-barred door with a loud, clanking screech and pulled it open.

"You have ten minutes, Counselor," the officer muttered, stepping back into the shadow of the hallway.

Elena stepped inside the cramped, freezing cell, stopping a few feet away from the table.

Christian looked up slowly, his eyes locking onto hers with the intensity of a cornered wild animal.

He stood up abruptly, the metal chair scraping violently against the concrete floor as he lunged toward her, only to be yanked back by the heavy steel chain anchored to the table.

"You treacherous bitch!" Christian roared, his voice cracking with unhinged rage as he slammed his fists down onto the stainless-steel surface.

"You planned this! You sat in my house, ate my food, smiled in my face while you were plotting behind my back with my own brother!"

Elena didn't flinch.

She didn't blink.

She simply crossed her arms over her chest and looked down at him with an expression of profound, chilling pity.

"You taught me well, Christian," Elena replied, her voice soft, smooth, and entirely devoid of fear.

"You taught me that in this world, sentimentality is a weakness, and power is the only language that matters."

"I made you!" Christian screamed, spittle flying from his lips as veins bulged furiously along his neck.

"You were a nobody from a broken family before I picked you up and put a ring on your finger!"

"And you were a broke, third-rate associate drowning in gambling debts before my father's firm bailed out your first startup," Elena countered sharply, stepping closer until the space between them vanished.

"You didn't make me, Christian. You tried to bury me. And you catastrophically underestimated what I could do in the dark."

Christian stared at her, the remaining fragments of his arrogant facade crumbling completely away, replaced by the terrifying realization of his absolute, irrevocable ruin.

"What do you want?" Christian whispered, his voice trembling as reality finally set in.

"Do you want a divorce? Do you want every penny I ever made?"

Elena turned slowly toward the heavy iron door, pausing just before stepping out into the hallway.

May you like

"I already took the company, Christian," she said without looking back.

"Enjoy your time in orange. It's the only color that matches your soul."
