Chapter 13 - Infiltration of the Serpent’s Lair

The midnight waters of the Hudson River churned violently beneath the hull of Dominic’s black tactical interceptor boat.

Spray from the freezing river drenched the armored windshield as the vessel sliced through the pitch-black waves at forty knots.

Dominic stood at the helm, wearing full tactical gear, his eyes scanning the dark water through night-vision goggles.

Behind him in the cabin, Penelope sat with her laptop tethered to a portable satellite dish, bypassing the maritime jammer frequencies.

“We are three hundred yards out from The Gorgon,” Penelope reported through her tactical headset.

“I have successfully compromised their onboard thermal security grid.”

“There are eight armed mercenaries patrolling the main deck, and three high-ranking lieutenants stationed inside the bridge beside Lorenzo Leone.”

Dominic throttled down the engines, letting the interceptor drift silently alongside the towering steel hull of the ninety-foot luxury yacht.

“Stay in the cabin, Penelope,” Dominic ordered, securing his suppressed assault rifle across his chest.

“Once I clear the main deck, I need you to board the vessel and neutralize the electronic failsafe on that barge before Leone can trigger the sequence.”

“I’m coming up with you, Dominic,” Penelope countered, pulling a slim ballistic vest tight over her dark sweater.

“The biometric bypass requires manual input at the main console.”

“If Leone initiates the countdown, you won’t have time to call me up from the boat.”

Dominic stared at her through the shadows of the cabin, recognizing the unyielding steel in her spirit.

She was no longer just an accountant auditing records in the safety of a corporate office.

She was a warrior fighting beside him for their shared survival.

“Stay directly behind my shoulder,” Dominic conceded, extending a gloved hand to pull her up to the boarding platform.

“If anyone raises a barrel in your direction, you drop to the deck immediately.”

They scaled the yacht’s maintenance ladder under the cover of the howling storm and the roaring engines of the idling vessel.

Dominic moved with lethal, ghostlike efficiency.

Two sentries on the aft deck collapsed silently into the shadows before they could even reach for their radios, struck by Dominic’s suppressed rounds.

They moved quickly through the teak corridors, stepping over fallen mercenaries as Dominic cleared each compartment with surgical precision.

Outside, the distant silhouette of the automated barge loomed like a floating mountain of steel, drifting dangerously close to the Russo logistics depot.

Suddenly, the heavy mahogany double doors of the master stateroom swung open, exposing the opulent, leather-paneled bridge.

Lorenzo Leone stood behind a reinforced console, holding a glowing digital detonator tablet in his left hand and a gold-plated revolver in his right.

His silver hair was disheveled, and his expensive bespoke suit was stained with sea spray and sweat.

Beside him stood his two remaining personal bodyguards, their weapons trained directly on the doorway.

“Welcome aboard, Dominic!” Leone shouted over the roar of the river wind, his voice laced with manic desperation.

“And look who you brought with you—the clever little bookkeeper who brought down an entire empire!”

“Drop the detonator, Lorenzo,” Dominic said, his rifle aimed dead center between Leone’s eyes.

“Your network is dead, your accounts are seized, and the feds have surrounded your private estates in Westchester and Miami.”

“You have nowhere to run.”

Leone sneered, his finger hovering millimeters above the flashing red activation icon on the tablet screen.

“If I’m going down, Dominic, I’m taking your name, your family’s legacy, and your entire billion-dollar waterfront down with me!”

“You think you’ve won?”

“One tap on this glass, and that barge turns Pier 44 into a crater visible from outer space!”

Before Leone could press down on the digital trigger, Penelope stepped out from behind Dominic’s shoulder, raising her left hand high.

The bright tactical floodlight on the bridge caught the blood-red diamond ring on her finger, sending a blinding flash of scarlet light across Leone’s eyes.

“You forgot one crucial detail, Mr. Leone,” Penelope announced with ice-cold authority.

“The port authority master override doesn't run through your encrypted satellite network anymore.”

“I re-routed the automated barge’s steering ballast five minutes ago while you were making your villainous speech.”

Leone’s eyes darted down toward his tablet in momentary, horrified confusion.

The screen flashed amber, displaying a flashing notification: COMMAND REJECTED — MANUAL OVERRIDE ENGAGED.

That single split-second distraction was all Dominic needed.

Dominic fired three rapid shots.

The two bodyguards dropped instantly, their weapons clattering against the polished teak floorboards.

Leone screamed in agony as the third bullet tore through his right shoulder, sending his gold-plated revolver spinning across the deck.

Dominic crossed the bridge in two predatory strides, grabbing Leone by the throat and slamming his head back against the shattered control console.

The detonator tablet slipped from Leone’s fingers, clattering harmlessly onto the carpet where Penelope immediately stomped on it, crushing the circuits beneath her boot.
