Chapter 5 - The Fall of the Underboss and the Birth of a New Syndicate Era

Dominic’s heavy right hand shot forward like a striking viper, grabbing Vincent by the expensive silk lapels of his suit jacket.

With a surge of raw, explosive strength, Dominic slammed the underboss backward against the reinforced marble pillar of the elevator bank.

The impact echoed through the lobby like a gunshot, sending shockwaves through the gathered crowd of executives and security guards.

“You broke my mother’s trust, you stole from the family vault, and you tried to sacrifice an innocent woman to cover your dirty tracks,” Dominic snarled, his face inches from Vincent’s terrified eyes.

“Did you honestly believe you could play both sides against the middle and walk away scot-free?”

Vincent choked for air, his hands clawing desperately at Dominic’s wrists as his feet dangled slightly off the polished floor.

“D-Dominic… listen to me… I can explain… it was Viper… he forced me…” Vincent gasped out, spittle flying from his lips as panic took full control.

“You don’t get to explain anything to me ever again,” Dominic interrupted coldly, tightening his grip until Vincent’s face turned a bruised, purplish hue.

“Your time as underboss of Russo Logistics officially ended the moment Penelope walked into my office last night.”

Dominic signaled with a sharp tilt of his head toward the perimeter guards standing near the glass doors.

Four armed security enforcers in heavy tactical gear moved in instantly, swarming the pillar and pinning Vincent’s arms behind his back in a brutal lock.

They stripped his weapon, tore his corporate security badge from his lapel, and threw him violently onto his knees on the cold marble floor.

The entire lobby watched in breathless silence as the mighty underboss—the man who had controlled the syndicate’s cash flows for five years—was reduced to a pathetic, whimpering prisoner.

Dominic stepped back, adjusting his suit cuffs with casual elegance before looking down at the broken man groveling at his feet.

“Take him down to the basement vault and lock him in the holding cell until I’m ready to pay him a proper visit,” Dominic ordered flatly.

“And ensure his communications are completely blocked from the outside world so Viper doesn’t get a warning.”

“Yes, boss!” the head enforcer barked, hauling Vincent up by his collar and dragging him screaming toward the freight elevators.

The heavy steel doors closed shut on Vincent’s desperate, furious curses, sealing his fate in the dark depths of the building.

Dominic turned slowly back toward Penelope, who stood watching the entire dramatic spectacle with a calm, steady breath.

The terrified, rain-soaked accountant who had broken into his office twelve hours ago was gone, replaced by a woman who had just helped dismantle a syndicate conspiracy.

The crowd of executives and employees stood frozen in stunned silence, waiting to see what the boss would do next with the mysterious woman standing at his side.

Dominic stepped closer to Penelope, his dark eyes softening just a fraction as he looked down at her.

He reached out, his fingers gently brushing a stray lock of hair away from her cheek before taking her hand in his.

He raised her left hand high enough for every single person in the corporate lobby to see the blood-red diamond ring resting on her finger.

“Listen to me, all of you,” Dominic announced, his deep, commanding voice echoing off the marble walls for everyone to hear.

“From this moment forward, Penelope Hayes is not just our lead forensic accountant.”

“She is my co-director of financial intelligence, and she stands beside me as an equal partner in the Russo family.”

“Anyone who disrespects her, questions her authority, or looks at her the wrong way answers directly to me.”

A collective gasp rippled through the gathered crowd as the massive political shift registered in their minds.

The underboss was gone, and a new era had just begun, anchored by the brilliant forensic accountant who had dared to break into the lion's den.

Penelope looked up into Dominic’s intense, unwavering gaze, feeling a strange, powerful warmth bloom inside her chest amidst the cold mafia world.

She hadn't just returned a stolen family ring in the middle of a midnight storm.

She had stepped into the dark shadows of the underworld, claimed her power, and rewritten the rules of the entire empire.

“Well, Mr. Russo,” Penelope murmured with a faint, knowing smile playing across her lips.

“I suppose this means I’m officially skipping my morning coffee break.”

Dominic let out a low, genuine chuckle, pulling her a fraction closer as the elevators chimed once more to signal their ascent to the top.

“Come along, Penelope,” Dominic said, leading her toward the private executive car with his hand firmly resting on the small of her back.
