Chapter 3 - The Dismantling Of The Cole Billion-Dollar Empire

The panic inside the Cole estate ballroom shifted from frantic confusion to a suffocating, paralyzing realization that the Moretti family didn't just break rules—they rewrote them entirely.
Richard Cole was still pinned face-first against the mahogany banquet table by two silent tactical operatives, his expensive suit wrinkled and his dignity thoroughly pulverized.
“Let me up!” Richard wheezed, his voice muffled by a silver platter of uneaten canapés.
“You have no idea what you’re doing! Our board of directors will call the governor by morning!”
Luca Moretti stepped closer, pulling a sleek gold pen from his pocket and tapping it lightly against the edge of the table.
“Governor’s office was notified twenty minutes ago, Richard,” Luca said with a chilling, professional smile.
“Turns out, your campaign contributions were funneled through a non-existent charitable foundation—which constitutes federal wire fraud and illegal political bribery. The governor’s press secretary is drafting a statement distancing himself from your entire family as we speak.”
Gabriel Moretti clicked a button on his tablet, and instantly, the massive projection screen descending from the ballroom ceiling flickered to life, illuminating the room with glowing red financial charts.
“Let’s talk about Cole Enterprises,” Gabriel announced, his voice carrying the detached authority of a surgeon explaining a terminal diagnosis.
“For the past three years, your company has been floating on inflated asset valuations and fraudulent commercial loans obtained by forging municipal zoning signatures.”
Adrian stared up at the giant screen, his face turning ghostly white as he watched his father’s corporate empire laid bare for all the terrified high-society guests to see.
“That’s proprietary corporate data!” Adrian shouted, lunging toward Gabriel.
Before Adrian could take another step, Matteo Moretti casually stepped into his path, his sheer physical presence stopping Adrian dead in his tracks.
“Quiet, boy,” Matteo rumbled, his voice like grinding stones.
“When the adults are talking about billions of dollars, the children keep their mouths shut.”
Dominic Moretti walked slowly across the polished marble floor until he stood directly in front of me, gently pulling a warm cashmere shawl from his own shoulders and wrapping it carefully around my bruised, trembling form.
“Are you alright, Elena?” Dominic asked, his eyes softening instantly as he looked at my face, though his jaw remained clenched with murderous restraint.
“I’m fine, Dom,” I whispered, pulling the shawl tight against my shoulders.
“Just tired of being treated like a ghost in my own marriage.”
Dominic turned back toward Adrian, his expression hardening back into pure, unyielding steel.
“You had her for three years,” Dominic said quietly, stepping toward my husband with deliberate, terrifying strides.
“Three years, you lived in her shadow, ate off her family’s connections, and walked around like a king while she quietly built the academic foundation that your entire publishing company actually runs on.”
Adrian backed away until the back of his knees hit the velvet sofa, his breathing shallow and rapid.
“She... she’s nothing,” Adrian stammered pathetically, trying to cling to his fading arrogance.
“She came from the streets! She has no pedigree!”
“Pedigree?” Nico laughed sharply from near the doorway.
“You absolute moron. You married a Moretti. Our grandfather owned half the shipping docks on the eastern seaboard before you grandparents even learned how to read a balance sheet.”
Margaret Cole let out a soft, pathetic whimper, sliding down the wall until she was sitting on the floor among the scattered champagne glasses, her social standing completely obliterated in a single evening.
“What... what do you want?” Richard wheezed from the banquet table, finally allowed to lift his head slightly.
“Everything,” Dominic stated simply.
“Every share, every deed, every offshore account, every commercial building, and every single cent your family owns.”
Luca opened his leather briefcase and pulled out three thick stacks of legal documents, dropping them heavily onto the coffee table in front of the sofa where Adrian sat trembling.

“Sign over your controlling shares in Cole Enterprises to Elena, effective immediately,” Luca commanded, sliding a golden pen across the glass surface.
“Refuse, and my brothers and I will ensure that every single member of your family spends the next thirty years sharing a cell block with federal inmates who don't particularly like white-collar criminals.”
