Chapter 6 - The First Board Meeting And The Fall Of The Old Guard

The executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of the Cole Enterprises monolith—now officially renamed Moretti-Cole Global—offered a breathtaking, panoramic view of the glittering city skyline.
Yet, not a single person seated around the massive, obsidian conference table dared to look out the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Silence hung so thick in the room that the hum of the centralized climate control system sounded like roaring jet engines.
Twelve senior vice presidents, regional directors, and executive board members who had spent years kissing up to Richard and Adrian Cole sat rigidly in their ergonomic leather chairs, staring straight ahead at the polished obsidian surface.
They were terrified.
And they had every right to be.
Standing at the head of the table wasn't the timid, quiet academic wife they occasionally remembered seeing trailing a few paces behind Adrian at charity galas.
I stood tall, wearing an impeccably tailored charcoal-gray pantsuit, my hair pulled back into a sleek, authoritative knot, with my five brothers stationed like silent guardians along the perimeter of the room.
“Good morning,” I said, my voice cutting through the heavy silence with calm, razor-sharp precision.
“Let’s dispense with the pleasantries. I have reviewed the organizational chart, the subsidiary ledgers, and the compensation packages for this executive team.”
I slowly paced down the length of the table, my heels clicking rhythmically against the floor.
“Over the past forty-eight hours, forensic accountants working under my brother Gabriel have uncovered widespread embezzlement, inflated expense reports, and kickback schemes orchestrated by several individuals currently sitting in this room.”
A collective gasp rippled through the executives.
Arthur Pendelton, the chief operating officer who had served as Richard Cole’s right-hand man for twenty years, raised a trembling hand.
“Mrs... Mrs. Moretti-Cole,” Arthur stammered, his face pale and slick with nervous sweat.
“Surely you don't mean to imply that the executive leadership team had any knowledge of... of the Cole family’s private financial activities? We are corporate operators! We run the logistics!”
Gabriel Moretti stepped forward, tossing a thick folder onto the obsidian table directly in front of Arthur.
“Really, Arthur?” Gabriel asked smoothly, his tone dripping with lethal sarcasm.
“Because these wire transfer records from your personal Bahamian bank account—matching kickbacks from three major construction suppliers—seem to suggest you were running quite a lucrative logistics operation of your own.”
Arthur stared down at the documents, his jaw slackening as he realized his secret had just been laid completely bare.
“Furthermore,” Luca Moretti added, stepping up beside Gabriel with a stack of termination letters, “under section nine of the newly amended corporate charter, my sister exercises absolute authority to restructure, terminate, and prosecute any employee found in violation of federal securities laws.”
Luca slid twelve individual envelopes across the table, scattering them like death warrants in front of the seated executives.
“Those are your immediate terminations, accompanied by your preliminary federal indictments,” Luca stated coldly.
“You have exactly ten minutes to clear your desks, hand in your security badges, and walk out the front doors before federal marshals arrive to escort you out in handcuffs.”
Panic instantly exploded across the boardroom.
Three directors leaped out of their chairs, shouting protests and demanding to speak to corporate lawyers.
Dominic Moretti didn't raise his voice, but the single, subtle tilt of his head was all it took.
Two tactical operatives stationed near the double doors stepped forward, instantly blocking the exit with absolute, immovable physical authority.
“You heard my brother,” I stated, my voice echoing with terrifying, unyielding calm.
“Ten minutes. Security will ensure you don't take anything that doesn't belong to you—including data files or corporate secrets.”
Arthur Pendelton slumped forward, burying his face in his hands as he realized his multi-million-dollar career, his reputation, and his freedom had just evaporated in less than three minutes.
Within eight minutes, the boardroom was completely cleared of the old guard, leaving only my brothers and me standing in the sunlit, gleaming corporate sanctuary.

“Well handled, Elena,” Matteo smiled, lighting a cigar that he had promised not to smoke until we were alone.
“The garbage has been taken out. Now, let’s talk about rebuilding this empire into something truly formidable.”
