Chapter 5 - The New Chairwoman And The Quiet Reclamation Of My Life

The morning sun washed over the sprawling Cole estate—now officially the Moretti-Cole estate—casting a warm, golden glow across the manicured lawns and the grand iron gates that were now guarded by my brothers’ tactical security personnel.
Inside the master suite, I stood before the tall antique mirror, wearing a pristine white silk blouse and tailored black trousers, running my fingers lightly over my back where the thirty whip scars were slowly healing beneath the fabric.
The heavy mahogany door clicked open, and Dominic stepped quietly into the room, holding a steaming cup of dark roast coffee.
“How are you holding up, Elena?” Dominic asked gently, handing me the mug.
“Better than I have in three years, Dom,” I replied, taking a warm sip and looking out the window at the sweeping gardens below.
“It’s amazing how much lighter the air feels once you clear out the garbage.”
Matteo, Luca, Gabriel, and Nico walked into the room moments later, carrying stacks of freshly printed corporate reports, legal briefs, and asset inventories.
“First board meeting of the newly restructured Moretti Enterprises is scheduled for ten o'clock downtown,” Matteo announced, adjusting his suit jacket.
“Every single corrupt executive who helped Adrian embezzle funds has already been fired and replaced with our own trusted directors.”
“And the media?” Gabriel added, tapping his tablet.
“The press releases are already out. The public narrative is clear: Adrian Cole was a corrupt, abusive fraudster who ran his family’s company into the ground, and you—his brilliant, long-suffering academic wife—quietly stepped in to rescue the company from total ruin.”
I couldn't help the small, genuine smile that touched the corners of my lips.
“Rescuing companies is a bit of a cliché,” I murmured, setting my coffee mug down on the vanity.
“I prefer calling it a hostile corporate restructuring.”
Luca laughed, a rich, booming sound that filled the sunlit room with warmth.
“That’s our sister,” Luca grinned, walking over to wrap his arm around my shoulders.
“For three years, we watched you play the quiet, obedient wife while those arrogant fools treated you like dirt, waiting for you to give us the single word to wipe them off the map.”
“I wanted to see how far their arrogance would carry them,” I said quietly, my eyes reflecting the bright morning light.
“Turns out, it only took thirty whip strokes to bring down a billion-dollar empire.”
Downstairs in the grand ballroom, the cleaning crews were already hard at work scrubbing away the broken crystal, replacing the damaged furniture, and polishing the marble floors until they shone like mirrors.
The ghosts of the Cole family’s cruelty were being swept out the front doors, replaced by the unyielding, unbreakable power of the Moretti name.

“Come on, Chairwoman,” Dominic said, holding out my tailored wool coat with a proud, approving grin.
“Let’s go take your company for a spin.”
