Chapter 4 - The Web of Vengeance and the Vance Enterprise

The morning sun broke over the Manhattan skyline, casting a blinding glare across the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the Vance Enterprise penthouse suite on the forty-fifth floor.
Victoria Vance stood by the glass, draped in a blood-red silk robe, holding a delicate porcelain cup of Earl Grey tea.
Below her, the city buzzed with oblivious life, ants crawling through concrete canyons, completely unaware of the financial storm brewing above them.
A sharp knock at the heavy oak double doors broke the silence of the luxurious penthouse.
"Enter," Victoria commanded, her voice like crushed glass—smooth, dangerous, and utterly unforgiving.
The door clicked open, and a tall, sharp-featured man in a bespoke gray suit stepped inside, clutching a thick leather portfolio to his chest.
It was Marcus Vance, her younger brother and chief legal counsel, a man whose loyalty to his sister was absolute and terrifying.
"The first phase is complete, Victoria," Marcus reported, walking over to the sleek marble desk and setting the portfolio down.
"The forged Westmorland parchment was successfully planted in the Sterling estate archive. Evelyn Sterling found it last night, right on schedule."
Victoria turned away from the window, a slow, predatory smile spreading across her painted lips.
"And Julian?" Victoria asked, her eyes narrowing with calculated interest.
"He took the bait," Marcus confirmed, pulling a series of high-resolution surveillance photographs from the folder and spreading them across the desk.
The photos showed Julian and Evelyn standing close together in the grand hallway, their faces illuminated by the dim mansion lights, the tension between them palpable even through a camera lens.
"Julian and Evelyn are working together to investigate the origin of the document," Marcus continued.
"They think it's an internal attack, but they haven't connected it to us yet."
Victoria walked over to the desk, her manicured fingers trailing over the photographs, pausing over Julian’s brooding face.
"Julian is smart, much smarter than his pathetic older brother," Victoria murmured, a dark glint of nostalgia flashing in her eyes.
"He was always the true threat in that household. Arthur is a weak-willed puppet driven by vanity, but Julian... Julian has teeth."
"Do you want me to accelerate the liquidation of their offshore accounts?" Marcus asked, his fingers hovering over the edge of the leather folder.
"No, Marcus," Victoria replied sharply, lifting her gaze to meet her brother's.
"A swift execution is a mercy they don't deserve. I want to watch the Sterling dynasty tear itself apart from the inside out."
She picked up a photograph of Arthur standing by the fireplace during the gala, his expression twisted with anxiety.
"Arthur thought he could discard me like broken glass and pay off the board to sweep my family name under the rug," Victoria whispered, her voice dropping into a venomous hiss.
"I am going to strip him of his wealth, his prestige, and his precious wife, until he has nothing left to his name."
"And Evelyn?" Marcus asked cautiously.
"What role does she play in your grand design?"
Victoria set the photograph down, her smile turning ice-cold.
"Evelyn is collateral damage," Victoria said dismissively.
"She chose to wear the Sterling crest, which means she wears their sins as well. If she stands in Julian's way, Julian will destroy her himself."
Marcus nodded slowly, gathering the photographs back into the portfolio.
"Shall I prepare the press leak for tomorrow morning?"
May you like
"Yes," Victoria replied, turning back toward the towering glass windows to watch the sunrise over the city she intended to conquer.
"Let the world know that the great Sterling empire is built on a foundation of stolen land and forged blood. Let the vultures circle."
