Chapter 7 - The Collision of Brothers and the Battle Lines

The atmosphere in the private study instantly transformed into a pressure cooker, the air thick with the palpable violence of a long-overdue reckoning.
Arthur didn't flinch; instead, he slowly turned his head to face his younger brother, a mocking smile curling the corners of his lips.
"Well, look who decided to join the family meeting," Arthur taunted, casually tossing the forged parchment onto the mahogany desk between them.
"Did you enjoy playing detective, Julian? Did you really think you were clever enough to outmaneuver me in my own house?"
Julian didn't look at the paper; his piercing gaze remained locked on Arthur, every muscle in his tall, tailored frame coiled and ready for violence.
"You're insane, Arthur," Julian said, his voice dangerously quiet as he took a slow, deliberate step into the room.
"You're willing to burn the entire Sterling dynasty to the ground just to feed your paranoid delusion of control."
"I am protecting what is mine!" Arthur snapped, his mask of calm completely shattering as he slammed his fist down onto the desk.
"You think I don't know what you've been doing? You've been meeting with the board behind my back, buying up shares, positioning yourself to take over the CEO seat at the end of the fiscal quarter!"
Evelyn watched the two brothers, realizing she was standing directly in the crossfire of a generational war fueled by greed, envy, and deep-seated familial trauma.
She tried to slip quietly around the edge of the desk toward the door, desperate to escape the toxic vortex before it consumed them all.
"Don't even think about it, Evelyn," Arthur snarled, his hand darting out with terrifying speed to grab her arm, yanking her back against his chest with bruising force.
Julian’s reaction was instantaneous.
With a roar of pure fury, Julian closed the distance across the room in a fraction of a second, lunging at Arthur and driving him backward away from Evelyn.
The two brothers collided with a heavy thud against the towering bookshelf, sending a dozen leather-bound tomes crashing to the polished hardwood floor.
Evelyn stumbled back, catching herself against the desk, her pulse pounding in her ears as she watched the brutal struggle unfold before her.
Years of suppressed resentment, unspoken competition, and bitter rivalry erupted into physical violence as the Sterling brothers traded heavy, brutal blows in the dim light of the study.
Julian caught Arthur with a hard right hook to the jaw, sending his older brother stumbling back against the edge of the mahogany desk.
Arthur gasped for air, wiping a streak of blood from the corner of his mouth, his blue eyes burning with a murderous fury.
"You've always thought you were better than me," Arthur wheezed, his chest heaving as he glared at Julian.
"Mother always favored you, the brilliant younger son, while I was left to carry the dead weight of this cursed family!"
"Mother didn't favor anyone, Arthur; she just knew what a hollow fraud you really were," Julian replied coldly, stepping forward with his fists still clenched.
Before Arthur could retaliate, the sharp, shrill ringing of the house telephone shattered the chaos of the room.
The sound echoed persistently through the quiet study, refusing to stop.
Julian never broke eye contact with his brother, but Evelyn’s eyes darted nervously toward the antique rotary phone sitting on the side table.
Slowly, trembling slightly, Evelyn reached out and picked up the heavy receiver, pressing it to her ear.
"Hello?" she breathed, her voice shaking.

"Evelyn Sterling?" a smooth, chillingly familiar voice purred through the line.
"It's Victoria Vance. Tell your dear husband and his little brother that the media has just received copies of the Westmorland land fraud. The game is over."
