Chapter 13 - THE RECKONING IN THE HOLDING CELL

Deep beneath the reinforced concrete foundations of the downtown Moretti security complex, the air smelled of ozone, old dust, and cold steel.
Vanessa Bellini sat huddled in the corner of the austere holding cell, her expensive red silk gown stained with dirt and wrinkled from a sleepless night on the metal bench.
The heavy iron door creaked open, breaking the oppressive silence.
Luca stepped into the dim light of the cell, followed closely by Daniel carrying a thick stack of finalized asset-transfer documents.
Vanessa scrambled to her feet, her mascara smeared across her cheeks, her eyes blazing with a mixture of pure fury and helpless terror.
"Luca!" she shrieked, lunging toward the iron bars before catching herself on the cold metal. "You can't keep me down here like an animal! My father will—"
"Your father is currently sitting in a federal holding facility downtown awaiting arraignment on six counts of corporate conspiracy and wire fraud," Luca interrupted coldly, his voice devoid of any human warmth.
Vanessa froze as if she had been struck by lightning, her jaw going slack in absolute disbelief.
"That's... that's a lie," she whispered, her voice trembling violently. "We own half the shipping routes in this state. The board would never allow—"
"The board transferred every single asset, dock, and warehouse bearing the Bellini name to Moretti Enterprises at nine o'clock this morning," Luca stated, stepping closer to the bars. "Triggered entirely by the hidden forfeiture clause in your own family's 2021 trust foundation."
Daniel stepped forward and dropped a single sheet of paper onto the small metal table inside the cell, along with a black ballpoint pen.
"What is this?" Vanessa hissed, staring down at the document with dilated eyes.
"It's a voluntary confession and non-contest agreement regarding the assault on Olivia Hayes and the corporate espionage directed at Elena Moretti," Luca answered calmly. "Sign it, and your prison sentence will be served in a minimum-security facility in upstate New York."
"And if I refuse?" Vanessa breathed out, her voice cracking.
Luca leaned in close, his dark eyes narrowing into dangerous slits.
"Then you spend the next twenty years in a maximum-security penitentiary alongside the very criminals your father spent his entire career trying to keep out of the headlines."

Vanessa stared at the black pen resting on the table for three long, agonizing seconds.
Then, with a choked sob of utter defeat, she snatched the pen off the metal surface and furiously signed her name across the dotted line.
