Chapter 15 - The Final Stand and the Downfall of the Vance Empire

Marcus looked disheveled, his designer suit wrinkled and stained with dust from his escape from the holding facility, but his eyes burned with a maniacal, victorious fire.

"Did you really think a simple basement cell could hold me, Viktor?" Marcus laughed, his voice echoing eerily through the cavernous server room.

"I own the security contractors. I own the building's infrastructure. And very soon, I will own the entire global shipping market."

Viktor lowered his pistol just a fraction, his dark eyes narrowing into deadly slits as he stared at his treacherous younger brother.

"You're a coward, Marcus," Viktor said, his voice dropping into a low, lethal growl.

"You hid behind our father's legacy, you framed an innocent man, and when things fell apart, you ran like a rat."

"Call me whatever you want, brother," Marcus sneered, his thumb resting threateningly over the red button of the remote detonator.

"One click of this button, and this entire server floor—along with every single piece of incriminating data—goes up in smoke. And you two will burn with it."

Clara didn't panic. Her fingers remained resting quietly on the keyboard of the master terminal behind her.

She had noticed something Marcus hadn't: the data upload had already hit ninety-nine point nine percent before he initiated his remote block.

All she needed was one second of distraction to execute the final carriage return.

"You talk too much, Marcus," Clara said smoothly, pitching her voice to draw his complete attention away from the terminal.

Marcus snapped his head around, sneering at her with pure venom.

"Shut your mouth, you cleaning bitch. This has nothing to do with you."

"It has everything to do with me," Clara replied, her lips curving into a cold, dangerous smile.

"And with Richard Sterling."

With a sudden, lightning-fast movement, Clara slammed the Enter key down with the palm of her hand.

The monitor flashed a brilliant, triumphant green: Upload Complete. Federal Warrants Dispatched.

Marcus’s face drained of color. He looked down at the remote detonator in horror, frantically pressing the red button.

Nothing happened.

The server room speakers chimed softly, announcing an automated broadcast from the Department of Justice mainframe.

Before Marcus could react, the heavy steel service doors of the server room blew open with a deafening crash.

Federal tactical agents—wearing FBI tactical vests and carrying assault shields—poured into the room, instantly tackling Marcus to the floor and disarming him in a flurry of shouted commands and snapping handcuffs.

Marcus screamed obscenities as he was dragged away across the raised floor tiles, his empire crumbling to dust around him once and for all.

The server room fell silent again, save for the steady hum of the cooling fans.

Viktor exhaled a long, heavy breath, holstering his weapon permanently, and turned to look at Clara.

She stood up from the terminal, her posture straight, her gaze meeting his with absolute, unyielding power.

The maid was gone. The prisoner was gone.

Standing before him was the true queen of the Manhattan financial empire.

Viktor stepped forward, taking her face in his hands, and kissed her with a fierce, absolute devotion that sealed their ruthless partnership forever.
