Chapter 13 - The Big Reveal

“It doesn't matter who pushed who,” I said, sliding a thick folder across the table. “Because I know everything.”

I opened the folder, revealing the financial dossier Marcus had compiled.

“Carol, your primary residence is in pre-foreclosure. You owe $400,000 to private lenders. And Vanessa,” I turned my gaze to my sister-in-law, who was now weeping uncontrollably. “Your former employer is preparing a civil suit for the $100,000 you embezzled. You thought stealing from a pregnant woman was your easy way out.”

“Daniel, please,” Carol begged, falling to her knees and grasping at his pant leg. “We are your family. We made a terrible mistake. We were desperate. You have so much money, you can make this go away!”

Daniel looked down at her with absolute disgust.

He gently kicked his leg free of her grasp.

“You aren't my family,” Daniel said softly. “You’re parasites.”

“You signed the proxy forms,” Carol suddenly snarled, her desperation turning to venom. “We are legally entitled to those funds now!”

I couldn't help but laugh.

“Did you read what you signed, Carol?” I asked.

Carol scrambled to pick up the documents from the table, her eyes scanning the text frantically.

“This… this isn't a proxy form,” she whispered, her hands shaking.

“No,” I smiled. “It’s a full confession of attempted grand larceny, wire fraud, and conspiracy. And you both just signed and dated it.”

Just then, the red and blue flashing lights of police cruisers illuminated the living room windows.
