Chapter 3 - The Silent Guardian

Silence descended upon the house, broken only by my ragged, shallow breathing.
The pain was relentless. I knew I was bleeding. I knew my twins were in grave danger.
I tried to drag myself toward the cabinet where Vanessa had kicked my phone, but my limbs felt like lead.
Stay awake. You have to stay awake.
I focused on the tiny, invisible lens of the camera above the pantry.
What Carol and Vanessa didn’t know was that the EMERGENCY LOCK on the trust account didn’t just freeze the funds.
It was a protocol I had custom-built after uncovering severe financial irregularities in a previous corporate fraud case.
When my biometric lock failed under duress, it silently dispatched an automated SOS to three places: my attorney, the local police dispatch, and Daniel’s private server.
Ten agonizing minutes passed.
The edges of my vision began to turn black. I started apologizing to my unborn children, tears mixing with the cold sweat on my face.
Suddenly, a loud crash echoed from the front of the house.
“Police! Is anyone inside?”
Heavy boots pounded against the floorboards.

“In the kitchen! We need paramedics, now!” an officer shouted, sliding to his knees beside me.
“My babies…” I managed to whisper before the darkness completely consumed me.
