Chapter 14 - The Ultimate Sacrifice
The next morning, Richard called an emergency board meeting.
Victoria sat in her usual seat, looking smug.
She did not know that Marcus had been arrested.
She believed she was about to win.
"I assume you have the documents, Richard?" Victoria said, her voice dripping with artificial sympathy. "Are you ready to step down?"
Richard did not speak.
He gestured to the projector screen at the end of the room.
The screen lit up.
It showed a video of Marcus in police custody, confessing to his crimes.
He detailed how Victoria had hired him to steal the documents and blackmail Richard.
Victoria’s face turned pale.
"This... this is a fabrication!" she stammered, looking around the room for support.
But the other board members looked away, disgusted by her actions.
"I have the documents, Victoria," Richard said, his voice calm and cold. "They prove my father’s illegal activities. And they also prove your involvement in covering them up for the last ten years."
"If you release them, the company will go bankrupt!" Victoria screamed. "You will destroy everything your father built!"
"My father built this company on lies and cruelty," Richard said. "He destroyed the life of the woman I loved. He kept me from my daughter. I do not care about his legacy."
Richard turned to the board.
"I am turning these documents over to the federal authorities today," he announced. "I will cooperate fully with their investigation. I will pay whatever fines are necessary. If the company falls, so be it."
"You're crazy!" Victoria shrieked as two security guards entered the room to escort her out.
Richard watched her leave.
He knew the consequences of his actions would be severe.
He would likely lose billions.
The company would be severely damaged.
But he did not care.
