Chapter 12 - A New Dawn for Sorrel

Upstairs in the grand master suite, the morning sun poured through the wide bay windows, bathing the room in a warm, golden glow that chased away every lingering shadow of the past.
Sorrel sat cross-legged on her plush white rug, coloring in a massive coloring book with a pack of bright, brand-new crayons while humming a cheerful, innocent tune.
The door clicked open softly, and Hadrian walked in, carrying a tray filled with fresh fruit, warm pastries, and a glass of milk.
He knelt down beside her on the rug, setting the tray aside with a gentle smile.
"Breakfast is served, little artist," Hadrian said warmly.
Sorrel looked up, her face lighting up with an incandescent grin as she tossed her crayons aside and threw her arms around her father’s neck, burying her face against his chest.
"Daddy, you're back!" she cheered happily. "Did you finish your work?"
"All finished, my love," Hadrian whispered, holding her close and breathing in the sweet scent of her hair, knowing that the world outside their gates was finally entirely safe.
"And we never have to worry about anything ever again."
Sorrel pulled back, her big, expressive eyes shining with pure joy and security.
"Can we go outside and check on our sunflowers today?" she asked eagerly.
"We can check on them right now," Hadrian replied, standing up and extending his hand toward her small, fragile fingers.
Hand in hand, father and daughter walked out of the bedroom, leaving behind the dark hallways and silent chambers of a house that had finally reclaimed its soul.
Outside in the expansive gardens, the bright yellow sunflowers stood tall and proud against the morning breeze, reaching up toward an endless, cloudless blue sky.
Sorrel ran ahead, laughing as she chased a tiny yellow butterfly across the emerald lawn, her bright yellow dress catching the sunlight like a beacon of absolute hope.
Hadrian stood on the stone patio, watching her with a deep, unbreakable sense of peace settling over his weary heart.
The nightmare was over.
