Chapter 3 - The Gathering of the Conspirators

Ascending from the depths of the estate, Hadrian returned to the brightly lit, modern expanse of the main house, where the ghost of Sorrel’s trauma still hung heavy in the atmosphere.

He walked quietly up the grand staircase and paused outside Sorrel’s bedroom door, pressing his ear gently against the wood.

Inside, he could hear the soft, rhythmic sound of steady breathing, mixed with the occasional sniffle of a child who had cried herself into an exhausted slumber.

He gently turned the brass knob, pushing the door open just enough to confirm that she was tucked safely beneath her heavy duvet, her favorite stuffed rabbit clutched tightly in her arms.

Walking away with a silent vow etched into his very soul, Hadrian made his way down the hall to his private study, a room lined with dark oak bookshelves and a massive mahogany desk outfitted with multiple monitors.

He sat down in his leather executive chair, booted up the secure terminal, and immediately accessed the estate’s internal security server.

For months, Clarissa had operated under the assumption that Hadrian was entirely oblivious to what happened inside his own home, foolishly believing that deleting the cloud backups of the hallway cameras would erase all evidence of her abuse.

What she didn't know—what nobody outside of elite intelligence circles knew—was that Hadrian’s overseas contracts weren't just standard corporate acquisitions; he was the primary financier and silent architect behind an international security conglomerate specializing in high-level digital forensics and surveillance.

With a few rapid keystrokes, Hadrian bypassed the local storage arrays and accessed the encrypted deep-storage vault, where every single second of high-definition footage from every camera in the house was automatically mirrored off-site via a dedicated satellite link.

On the screen before him, the past six months of his daughter's life began to play out in horrifying, unedited detail.

He watched as Clarissa forced Sorrel to scrub the dining room floor with a toothbrush while mocking her tears.

He watched as she locked the little girl in the dark pantry for twelve hours straight without food or water because she couldn't recite the alphabet correctly due to sheer exhaustion.

And worse than all of that, he saw the faces of the domestic staff who had stood by and watched, whispering amongst themselves, accepting bribes to look the other way, or actively participating in the psychological torment.

There was Mrs. Higgins, the head housekeeper, who had handed Clarissa the metal chain with a sickening smile.

There was Dr. Alistair, the family pediatrician, who had signed off on fake medical reports attributing Sorrel’s bruises to "severe clumsiness and playground accidents" in exchange for hefty financial kickbacks funneled through offshore accounts.

And finally, there was Marcus Vance, Clarissa’s cousin and legal advisor, who had helped draft the fraudulent guardianship documents intended to strip Hadrian of his parental rights the moment he returned from his trip.

Hadrian leaned back in his chair, a slow, predatory smile spreading across his face as he compiled a comprehensive dossier on each and every one of them.

They thought they were untouchable because they moved within the highest circles of society, insulated by wealth, influence, and corrupted institutions.

They had severely underestimated the man they had chosen to cross.

Reaching for his encrypted satellite phone, Hadrian dialed a private, unlisted twelve-digit number that connected directly to his elite private security detail stationed just outside the city limits.

"Boss," a deep, gravelly voice answered on the first ring. "We were wondering when you'd check in. Everything smooth at the estate?"

"Not quite, Miller," Hadrian replied, his tone ice-cold and razor-sharp.

"The estate has been compromised by an infestation of vermin. I need you and the tactical unit assembled at the front gates in exactly twenty minutes."

"Understood, sir. Are we looking at extraction or neutralization?"

May you like

Hadrian stared at the monitors, watching a looping clip of Clarissa laughing as Sorrel tripped over her own feet.

"Total eradication," Hadrian said softly. "Leave no stone unturned, and bring me the three primary conspirators by sunrise."
