Chapter 14 - The Unbreakable Vow

Years later, the Obsidian Estate stood not as a monument of dark, forgotten history, but as a legendary symbol of resilience, unconditional love, and absolute justice.

Sorrel had grown into a brilliant, compassionate, and fiercely independent young woman, preparing to head off to an Ivy League university to study law and human rights, driven by a deep, innate desire to protect the vulnerable and ensure that no child ever had to suffer the way she once had.

On the eve of her departure, Hadrian sat with her in the grand library, the room illuminated by the warm, flickering glow of the stone fireplace.

"Are you nervous about tomorrow, sweetheart?" Hadrian asked softly, pouring two cups of tea and handing one to his daughter.

Sorrel took the cup, blowing gently across the surface before looking up at her father with a gaze that mirrored his own quiet strength and unwavering determination.

"A little bit, Daddy," Sorrel admitted with a gentle smile. "But I know I’ll be fine. After all... I had the best teacher in the world."

Hadrian’s heart swelled with a profound, overwhelming sense of pride that words could scarcely capture.

He reached across the mahogany table and gently took her hand, his thumb tracing her knuckles.

"You are stronger than you will ever know, Sorrel," Hadrian said, his voice steady and resonant.

"No matter where life takes you, no matter how far you travel, remember that you are loved beyond measure. And no matter what obstacles stand in your way, you always have a home right here."

Sorrel smiled, leaning across the table to throw her arms around her father’s neck, burying her face against his shoulder just as she had done on the day he returned home to save her from the darkness.

"I love you, Daddy," she whispered.

"I love you too, my little princess," Hadrian replied, closing his eyes and letting the warmth of the moment wash over him.

Deep beneath their feet, forgotten by time and buried under endless layers of stone and earth, the iron gates of the dungeon remained locked tight, sealing away the ghosts of a past that had tried to destroy them and failed completely.
