Chapter 7 - The Morning Sun Over the Obsidian Estate

Dawn broke over the horizon, painting the sky in violent shades of crimson and gold as the morning sun slowly crept over the sprawling grounds of the Obsidian Estate.

Inside her bedroom upstairs, Sorrel stirred beneath the heavy duvet, her breathing steady and peaceful for the first time in over six months.

The nightmares that had haunted her every night—the sound of heavy chains dragging across the floor, the cruel laughter, the cold, dark confines of the pantry—seemed to have finally retreated in the face of absolute, unyielding paternal protection.

She rubbed her eyes, sat up slowly in bed, and looked toward the bedroom door, half-expecting to hear the terrifying click of the lock turning from the outside.

Instead, the door gently pushed open, and Hadrian walked in, carrying a small tray with a warm cup of cocoa and a plate of buttered toast.

"Good morning, my little princess," Hadrian said softly, a warm, genuine smile gracing his face as he sat down on the edge of the mattress.

Sorrel’s face lit up with an expression of pure, unfiltered joy, and without a moment's hesitation, she launched herself forward into her father’s arms, burying her face in his chest and wrapping her small arms tightly around his neck.

"Daddy, you're really here," she whispered, her voice trembling slightly with lingering disbelief. "You didn't have to leave again?"

"I'm not going anywhere, Sorrel," Hadrian promised, kissing the top of her head as he held her close against his heart.

"Nobody will ever hurt you again. I give you my word."

They sat together for a long time in the quiet warmth of the bedroom, savoring the simple peace that had been stolen from them for so long.

Down below, hidden deep beneath the polished marble floors of the grand estate, the reality of their victory played out in stark contrast.

In the subterranean holding cell, Clarissa, Mrs. Higgins, Dr. Alistair, and Marcus Vance huddled together in the freezing darkness, their expensive clothes ruined, their spirits entirely broken.

They had believed themselves invincible, ruling over the estate like petty tyrants who could dispose of human lives at their whim.

Now, they were nothing more than prisoners in a world of their own making, forgotten by society, trapped beneath the very floors where they had inflicted such unspeakable cruelty.

Hadrian eventually excused himself from Sorrel’s room once she had finished her breakfast and drifted back into a light, untroubled sleep.

Walking down the grand staircase, he paused in the center of the foyer, looking around at the magnificent house that was finally, truly his home once more.

His phone buzzed in his pocket.

He pulled it out and looked at the screen. A secure notification from his legal team confirmed that all preliminary federal indictments against Clarissa, Vance, Alistair, and Higgins had been successfully filed and processed through expedited federal channels.

By noon, their assets would be frozen, their reputations obliterated, and their freedom permanently revoked.

Hadrian slid the phone back into his pocket, walked over to the front windows, and looked out over the sun-drenched gardens of the Obsidian Estate.

The storm had finally passed.

And the monsters who had dared to venture into his domain had been thoroughly, permanently eradicated.
