Chapter 2 - The Descent Into the Dungeons of the Obsidian Estate

The Obsidian Estate was an architectural marvel built in the late nineteenth century, boasting endless corridors, priceless art collections, and centuries of dark, hidden history.
Beneath the polished marble and opulent chandeliers lay a subterranean labyrinth that few living souls knew existed, originally designed as a wine cellar and secure holding area during turbulent historical eras.
Clarissa had discovered the reinforced iron doors leading to the lower levels shortly after moving into the estate, and in her sick, twisted desire for complete control, she had converted the deepest holding cell into Sorrel’s nightly prison.
Now, as Hadrian forced her down the spiral stone staircase, her high heels clipped frantically against the damp steps, echoing like falling stones in a tomb.
"Let go of me!" Clarissa screamed, stumbling forward as Hadrian shoved her roughly against the cold stone wall.
"You are making a massive mistake, Hadrian! My family will ruin you for this! My father has political ties that can strip you of every single penny you own within twenty-four hours!"
Hadrian didn't even dignify her hysterical threats with a verbal response; he merely tightened his grip on her arm, dragging her further down into the suffocating darkness where the air smelled of mold, rust, and forgotten despair.
The only illumination came from a single, flickering overhead bulb that cast long, grotesque shadows across the rough-hewn stone walls.
At the very end of the corridor stood a heavy iron-barred gate, equipped with a digital keypad and a mechanical deadbolt system that Clarissa had personally installed to ensure absolute captivity.
"Open it," Hadrian commanded, shoving her toward the keypad.
"I won't! You're insane!" Clarissa sobbed, her manicured nails scratching uselessly against the stone wall as she tried to plant her feet.
"If you put me in there, there’s no coming back from this! We are done! Do you hear me? We are completely and utterly finished!"
Hadrian let out a dark, mirthless chuckle that echoed through the damp corridor like the snapping of dry twigs.
"Finished?" he echoed, his eyes flashing with a predatory intensity.
"Clarissa, sweethearts, we haven't even started yet."
With a sudden, brutal motion, Hadrian grabbed the back of her designer dress and shoved her forward into the iron cell, sending her sprawling face-first onto the filthy concrete floor.
She shrieked in outrage as the dust and grime coated her pristine silk clothing, scrambling to her feet and rushing toward the open gate just as Hadrian pulled the heavy iron door shut.
CLANG!
The sound of the deadbolt sliding into place was the most terrifying sound Clarissa had ever heard in her entire life.
She slammed her hands against the iron bars, her face twisting in sheer panic as she stared out at the man she had tormented for months.
"Hadrian, please!" she cried, her voice cracking as genuine terror finally took root in her soul.
"It was just a joke! It was just a way to keep her in line! I didn't mean to hurt her—please, let me out of here! It's freezing! It's dark!"
Hadrian stood outside the bars, slowly pulling a heavy steel chain from his jacket pocket—the very same chain that had been locked around Sorrel’s ankle just twenty minutes prior.
He looped the chain through the iron bars and wrapped it around the industrial padlock, securing it with a loud, metallic click.
"You wanted discipline, Clarissa," Hadrian said smoothly, his voice devoid of any human warmth.
"You wanted to teach a six-year-old child how to survive in the dark. Let's see how well an adult handles the exact same curriculum."
"No! You can't do this to me!" Clarissa shrieked, gripping the bars so hard her knuckles turned completely white.
"I have rights! I am a citizen! I will call the police the second I—"
"The police won't find you down here," Hadrian interrupted calmly, turning his back on her as he began walking away down the corridor.
"In fact, nobody in this city will even remember your name by tomorrow morning. Sleep well, my dear."

"HADRIAN! COME BACK HERE! HADRIAN!"
Her desperate screams echoed up the stairwell, but Hadrian didn't slow his pace, his mind already shifting from immediate retribution to the systematic dismantling of everyone who had enabled Clarissa’s reign of terror.
