Chapter 1 - The Shaking Flower Girl in the Marble Corridor

The marble hallway of the grand estate stretched out like a frozen runway, its polished floors reflecting the warm, opulent glow of crystal wall sconces.

Yet, the atmosphere was suffocatingly cold, carrying the weight of a forced union that was destined to collapse under the pressure of hidden truths.

Julian straightened the cuffs of his immaculate black tuxedo, his dark wavy hair catching the light as he stepped out of the bridal suite.

He expected to find a moment of quiet reflection before the wedding ceremony sealed his fate, but a faint, heartbreaking sound pierced the silence.

Curled tightly in the far corner, half-hidden against the white wainscoting, was a small figure.

It was Lily.

The six-year-old flower girl was shaking uncontrollably, her delicate white sparkly lace dress stark against the dark floor, her face tracked with fresh tears and freckles.

Julian’s breath hitched in his throat, a sudden pang of protective instinct overriding the numbness he had felt all morning.

He closed the distance between them, his dress shoes clicking softly against the marble, and crouched down to her level.

His dark eyes softened with genuine concern as he looked at the terrified child.

"What are you doing here?" he asked, his voice a low, gentle murmur in the cavernous hallway.

The little girl kept her head ducked, her small hands clasped white-knuckled in her lap, sobbing quietly into her chest.

"Mom told me to stay hidden and never go outside," she whispered, her voice small and shaky, filled with a terror no six-year-old child should ever experience.

Reaching out slowly so as not to frighten her, Julian carefully took her small, trembling hands into his large ones, grounding her with warmth.

Slowly, Lily lifted her head, her big blue eyes swimming with tears as she looked straight into his face.

"Mom said it’s a secret… Mom said I mustn’t tell you anything," she stammered, the words tumbling out in a desperate rush.

Deep emotional tension settled heavy in the air, thick and suffocating like an approaching storm.

Julian leaned in closer, his gaze searching her tear-stained features with fierce, reassuring intensity.

"You can tell me," he urged softly, his thumb gently thumbing away a tear from her cheek. "I won't let anyone hurt you, I promise."

Before Lily could speak, the heavy double doors behind Julian swung violently open, slamming against the wood paneling with a resounding bang.

There stood the bride—his bride—her long blonde hair loose and wild, her chest heaving as she stared at them with a look of sheer, unadulterated panic.

Lily flinched violently at the sound, her fingers gripping Julian’s hands tighter until her knuckles turned translucent.

She looked up at him one last time, her voice dropping to a barely audible, terrified whisper: "Mom said I mustn’t tell you anything."
