Chapter 9 - Breaking the Gates and the Road to the Safehouse

The heavy armored G-Wagon surged forward like an unstopped freight train, the speedometer climbing rapidly as it tore down the subterranean exit tunnel.
The two tactical operatives descending the ramp scrambled out of the way in sheer panic, diving behind a concrete pillar as the multi-ton vehicle roared past them in a blur of black steel.
"Fire! Fire!" one of the operatives screamed, emptying his submachine gun blindly into the rear armored panels of the accelerating truck with zero effect.
Julian didn't look back. His hands gripped the steering wheel with absolute, white-knuckled authority as the three-inch-thick steel security gate loomed larger and larger through the windshield.
CRASH!
The impact was deafening—a cataclysmic explosion of bending metal, snapping hydraulic bolts, and flying sparks that illuminated the entire tunnel like a mid-summer fireworks display.
The reinforced steel gate crumpled inward like tin foil under the immense kinetic energy of the speeding armored vehicle, blowing outward onto the coastal access road in a cloud of dust and debris.
The G-Wagon burst through the wreckage, launching airborne for a fraction of a second before slamming down hard onto the asphalt of the winding coastal highway with a heavy, solid thud.
Julian kept his foot firmly pinned to the floorboards, guiding the roaring truck around the sharp mountain curves as the salty spray of the Pacific Ocean crashed against the concrete barriers below.
In the back seat, Lily let out a breathless, excited giggle, safely strapped into her booster seat despite the violent turbulence of the breakout.
"We did it, Mr. Julian! We flew like a bird!" Lily cheered, pressing her face against the side window to watch the estate disappear behind the winding cliffs.
Julian let out a long, ragged breath, his shoulders finally dropping an inch as the immediate mortal danger subsided into the open road ahead.
"Yes, we did, Lily. We flew right out of their trap," Julian said softly, his eyes scanning the rearview mirror for any sign of pursuit vehicles tailing them along the coast.
The highway was completely clear, stretching out northward toward the dense pine forests of the county line where his grandfather’s old, unmapped hunting lodge stood hidden from the world.
It was the only place safe enough, isolated enough, and heavily fortified enough to hide a terrified six-year-old child and a billionaire shipping tycoon declared an enemy of an international cartel.
As the miles rolled by, Julian’s thoughts returned to Victoria, his ruined wedding, and the devastating betrayal that had nearly cost him everything he had built.

She hadn't just broken his heart; she had tried to hand his entire family empire over to criminals on a silver platter.
And now, the war between the Sterling logistics syndicate and the shadowy cartel pulling Victoria’s strings had officially begun.
